One thing I may try is making another account just to see how users treat other users (through PMs).
Some users only act nice because the admin is around. It would be nice to see how the users treat others when the admin has 'disappeared'.
If you are in desperate need of posts you can create like 3 accounts and reply to every single thread on each one.
Lol, I wouldn't do it only because that is kind of like cheating the system.
I just now created a second account on my forum, and I'm using that one for my administration duties, so that I can post on my current one as a regular member. I'm getting fed up with permissions, so what I feel like doing is deleting my original account (the one with my founder permissions) reregistering all together, and then just posting as a regular member that way. As I'm getting fed up with pussy-footing around in the ACP all day.
There's many schools of thought on it. Some will create a second account and pretend it's another use altogether, so they can catch possible spammers and rule breakers. As for controversial threads, that may be the best part to catch people.
However, if you're the admin, and you use that one account, and get involved, you may even PREVENT users from breaking the rules and spamming.
I have it set on my website so that the admins, mods, temp mods, and regular users all have their usernames a different shade of color, and a special rank with it's logo. However, I'm not at all big on exercising power or authority. So yeah it's well known that I'm admin, but according to me all that means is that I manage the website, make sure it's working properly, and uphold it's values. To me, administering the site more closely means being a custodian of the site and no more. My personal feelings and views are irrelevant to my administrating. Perhaps I should change that rank titled "Administrator" to "Custodian", and something similar to the mod rank.
So yeah I participate in my site just like any other user. If there is a controversial topic, I participate in it's discussion and say whatever I please just as everyone else is allowed to. There is no secret policing or behind-the-scenes activity as I hate that kind of administration. 😎
I personally have one account that I post with and they all know I'm the admin. If a "spicy" discussion comes up and I need to get into it I will , but, in a professional manner. We have to remember as admins we must uphold a standard and not get caught up in the "drama". I do have another account on my forum but it's just for testing permissions.
