Do you know what I hate more than ever? Members who open up a host or forum and say "I am dedicated to this project". They say they are dedicated but after a couple weeks (not even a full month) they shut the forum/host down because either they don't like the fact that it isn't active or they aren't making any money from it. And when you point it out to certain people about their previous projects, they say that they're very dedicated to thing one because of funds or certain advertising techniques.

What are your views on this?

Simple. I hate them.

People should stop comparing them with big boards, and shut down their Forum when activity isn't good.

And even bad approach is, people starting Forum and doesn't not improve content. They simply wait for people to join and post for them.

And sometimes they get all defensive about it and make it seem like you are the bad guy.

can't blame them. they lack information on how make it work.

Sorry, but this is a definite "Amen" here. I for one am getting sick of looking at what looks to be a particularly good forum, go on a posting spree for a week or longer, turn around to find that my hard work. has been wasted. It's pathetic and it needs to stop. I mean, would an employer hire you at a real world job if you had little to no experience? Not likely. Sure, there are jobs where employers are willing to train as you move up in your field and get higher ranks and whatever, but more often than not, employers are usually strict about how much experience you have in the job you're applying for, and if you even so much as give them a hint that you know nothing about your line of work or even if you know a little bit, all I can say is don't hold your breath that you'll get hired, because you most likely won't. Same thing for running forums. My recommendation would be that if you don't know anything about the back end of running a forum, scrounge around on forums of your liking that have staffing positions available (more namely moderators/admins) and that will more than help you gain experience and insight to owning a forum. Nobody wants to post on a forum where staff don't know what the heck they're doing. In fact, if I'd known this advice when I first started trying to run a forum, I would've tried applying for staff positions someplace so I can get a general idea of what it's like to actually be in charge or second in command in something.

Avoid their future projects and they might change their ways.

Agreed. People should follow my approach before a board launch. I always do private exchanges, and that sort of thing. I joined a site yesterday that was built yesterday, today they closed due to no one else signing up. I mean... They're not going to join if you don't act professional, stop whining and not even care about advertising elsewhere. FP will not get you anywhere!

I agree I was very upset when my forum had to be re-started because of problems I was worried my members would not come back but I was lucky they did

I been on some forums thats not even lasted 7 days did a post exchange with them I had done over 25 posts went back to do more and it was gone

I disagree with this. It is totally right to shut something down because it is not getting the attention it needs. How do you hate people like this? That is just ridiculous.

How can you say that something like this is right? When I first started trying to run a forum, and I kept opening and closing sites, I was almost banned from some forums because owners were getting impatient with my habits. Had I continued, I would've never been allowed to request even so much as a package again. Ever. So how can you sit there and say this is right, when some of us have almost gotten into hot water for this before? Explain that, please.

I can see why this would be annoying. I wouldn't get too agitated though.

They mean people that claim to be working really hard on a forum but really aren't and then shut it down, complain, and start anew, just so you know, Hio.
