I hear it said all the time if I am honest. I think because it is big and popular saying over here in the UK and England as well, its something that is said by others when you do them a favor you say "You owe me" once you have done that favor.

Yes, and it was a friend of mine did me a favor.

After he said that, I proceeded to give him a breakdown of every single favor I did for him for that month alone, and then asked him he if he'd like to settle his account or should we pretend that this conversation never happened?

He then said he was kidding and then quickly changed the subject.
