Your editing software

Just a quick question to everyone who currently has, or has had advanced forum hosting.

What method / program do you use for editing your files?

Personally, i download the file to be edited from the server, and open it in Dreamweaver 8. Not only is the code colour co-ordinated and easy to align, but depending on the file you're editing, you can preview your changes by clicking the "Design" button.

Just use the CPanel

I use the CPanel for stuff like domains, databases. I use a FTP firefox addon to upload files and I use notepad for editing things.

Notepad? I often find that opening files in wordpad ruins the layout.

Personally, the best Free Rich Text editor would be Word Pad

Yeah notepad put everyhthing on the same lne and messes it all up.

I just use wordpad as it is easy to use and i have not had any problems with it.

I have Frontpage 2003. I use either that for big pieces of code, or for small pieces i use Notepad.

frontpage is just as effective as dreamweaver, in that it keeps everything colour co-ordinated, and aligned correctly.

However, dreamweaver has a larger interface, which means more code is visible to the programmer. 🙂

Yeah but i got mine from a friend, and i would get Dreamweaver but i cant be bothered to pay lol.

Notepad or Wordpad for me. I dont need a program to tell me what to do. 😛

I suppose a program would be better though as it would catch any mistakes.

Speaking of that I was editing a file on my forum (vBulletin).. It allows you to edit files in the ACP. Well I made a mistake and when I went to save, it saw the mistake and pointed it out to me.. Asked if I really wanted to save or not. Pretty smart software. 😛

I use a few. I use JCE for CMS, Notepad for small file editing and a few big ones for bigger editing.

I use Wordpad or GEdit for local edits, depending on the OS I'm on.

However, most of my file edits are done on cPanel or DirectAdmin.

I hand-edit. No software. Straight out of the ZB CSS that I put it in.
