How did your most active members find your forum? Do you know?

Were they friends of yours on another forum, or maybe IRL? Are they all staff members who saw a listing of yours somewhere? Did you get them from ads or SEO? Anything I didn't think of?

I advertised my forum on facebook and twitter and other social media. That is how my most active members got to my forum.

For the smaller forums I've been a part of, a lot of it is advertisement through forums and word of mouth. For a forum the size of FP, SEO plays a huge role in member base.

Mainly SEO, links from parallel international forums, social media, flyer runs and local advertising.

All the best,
Cal 🙂

In most cases, around 80%-85% of the total users in any big forum come from search engines and the others come from maybe a sig link, a word of mouth from a member or a website that promotes stuff like FP.

Most people when I ran my forum came from another forum which I advertised heavily on. It was good because I knew them well, but I ended up becoming too reliant on that one forum for new members, and when they drifted away, I was all alone. 🙁

Don't have a forum at the moment but in the past it usually goes something like this...

Word of mouth, friends, Signature advertising, social media advertising.

But in the long run many will come from good SEO techniques and quality content within your forum. Also, by this time your social media pages have grown much larger.

I think the real question would be "Why are your most active members still apart of your forum? and why did they choose you?"

Most of my members are friends or posters from another board that I was on for a long time.

Most of my active members are from other forums and most of them found my forum in Google.

Usually those who are my most active members, usually join via an advertisement thread I posted on some of the forums I have posted on.

I got my active members from friends of friends. This method does work better than ads sometimes. 🙂

Most of my active members came from other forums I was active on. A few came from google, referrals, and other places as well.

Most of the active people here on Forum Promotion have found us through Google or another search engine. Magical things happen when your SEO is amazing. 😛

Probably from all of our links on various games in our niche, google, word of mouth along with our various forum signatures. We're also linked on a couple of blogs, on tumblr, twitter and facebook. We get about 13k monthly visits from google and that's our main traffic source, however, a lot of our referrals drive over 500 visits to us a month.

Friends from another forum that is huge and gets tons of traffic/activity
I was a really good & popular user on that forum
I had 4k+ posts and over 900 rep
I invited all of my friends over to my forum and like 99% of them joined and are very active
