Your opinion on the Freemasons

Thanks for the detailed reply Savvy, it makes for interesting reading. Do you believe what "Teodor Eyeless" told you when he said he wasn't a Mason?

Lacey what did that person tell you that made you believe they were evil?

No, I didn't believe him. Before I went on my search to find a Mason I did a lot of research and I knew he would never openly say he was a Mason. That's why I ended up asking him "What grade are you?" to see if he had knowledge of Masons. He sort of gave himself away.

You can also Google Masons and they join forums like everybody else. You can find discussions where they defend Masonry and describe it as a good cause.

I'm pretty sure that while open to an extent it would take a certain person to break into their inner sanctum, there's far too much secrecy going on for it to all be legal and above board?
If you have money you can buy your way into most things, our local free masons declare that they unite businesses and do great work for charity, they never talk about rolling up one trouser leg and chanting an oath? I believe that because of their money they do have the power to pull strings where needed but I'm unsure of just how harmful some can be?
I also like the mystery behind these ancient traditions, it makes for a far less boring world, where would we be without mystery and intrigue?

When things are kept in secret people start thinking that something bad is going on.
Just because they don't share their intentions doesn't mean there is a valid enough reason to say they are doing something illegal or wrong.

If the Freemason's are some evil origination, then I'd have to think that someone very close to me, a 32nd degree mason, is also evil and all that rubbish. So know, I don't think they are some evil organization. I've actually considered joining them myself.

Is there any particular reason why you haven't done so yet?

How do you think you would benefit yourself or other people by joining them?

Well, I actually took steps to do so--this mason I know, I asked him if I could join, and he put me in touch with someone who would be able to help me out...so I emailed the guy--didn't hear back though, but my friend told me I should email him back--he talked to the guy and I guess he didn't get my email.

Really, I'm not sure why I haven't emailed him back yet...guess I'm just not ready for this undertaking yet. I hear there is a lot of studying involved, as they want you to know masonic history and stuff...and being a college student, I'm studying my arse off already. I still intend to join though.

I think because of how many charities the masons are involved with, I'd be able to help a lot. They are involved in a TON of charity work. Also, they are a group of people who will help eachother when in need as well. From what I understand, they are very close to one-another.

I also like the idea of being part of a structured group. That may be part of why I want to join the military so much as well. So there are some great benefits to being a Mason, I think.

That's a very interesting insight SilverWolf, thanks for all that and good luck with your studies.

I'm fascinated by your interest Fergal, have you been asked or are you considering joining one?

You'll be able to give us a great insight yourself should you get in one

For those who don't know, in order to join, you have to ask. A mason will never (or should never) approach you with an offer. You -must- ask.. So if you are waiting around for a mason friend or relative to ask you if you want to be a mason, it won't happen--they aren't supposed to do that. Just a bit of FYI for anyone who is interested.

Thanks Fergal, I will need the luck in my studies. Another piece of FYI--our college system sucks

I lived in England for about three and a half years, this was a few years back, and until then I hadn't really heard about the Masons - they are much stronger in the UK than here in Ireland. At that time I got to know some people who were very much against them and believed that they were a harmful organisation. At the time I didn't think very much about it but I couldn't figure out why people were so dead set against them.

I've just recently finished reading The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown, which has a story about the Masons as it's main plot. He describes them as a benign organisation that are misunderstood largely because of the fact that they have secrets. Reading the book reminded me of what I'd heard about the Masons when I lived in the UK and I was interested in hearing what other members here thought about them.

To the best of my knowledge I don't know anyone who is in the Masons.

I have just read all posts of this topic! What a epic read I must say!

My first real forum was called: "Free Masons Forums".

But it was just a special name given to a off-topic forum.

Do you have an interest in the Free Masons?

Where's the forum now?

I knew about the freemasons little when I created the forums but then when I was confronted the name has nothing to do with the forum what it is about. I felt i needed to know more about this freemasons stuff.. So I did some reading and eventually wrote an article on them. Not that great.

The forum is gone, deleted. It was on freeforums.org

The place FP was on to once.
