What do you think is better: Bumping a month-old or greater topic or making an identical one? I seen forums where people point users to older threads, but other ones say absolutely no old post bumping. -?-

I don't see the point in NOT bringing back the old topic. It's really just, well dumb if you ask me. No reason why you can't continue the discussion in the old topic.

Bumping old threads is always best, it saves users having to retype out their thoughts/opinions again. They are probably more likely to contribute new material to an advancing thread then to repost the same comments in the same thread multiple times

I think its fine, I'd rather have a thread brought back than have 5 or 6 threads on the same topic, in-fact if that happens I tend to merge them

What I do is on forums I'm at, if an old thread is interesting enough, I post something new in these threads. There's a 50% chance that the old thread will be brought back for new discussion, but I'd rather have that than have members spam the forum with new threads that could be relevant to the old thread.

I think it's fine when there's a valid reason to bump a thread.

But bumping them without that is annoying. I've personally never had much of a beef with valid resurrections.

I think you should be allowed to bump. It's alot better than having to fish through all the old posts, only so you can copy and paste what you had said in the first place.

I think it's okay to bump old threads, only if you have something contructive to add to the discussion at hand. Overdoing it is annoying and shouldn't be allowed. xD

It doesn't really matter to me. I see the benefits to both. I personally would just make a new topic if the old topic is over a year old. After a year, opinions can be changed. I think it's best to allow them to change.

We really don't have a rule about bumping up old threads. As long as you have something relavent to say about a topic, I have no problems with you bumping it up.

I personally don't have a issue with bumping honestly. It's better if someone bumps a topic rather than make a duplicate topic, that you have to close and or merge with another topic. I don't see how bumping a topic is frowned upon. It's better to have one topic than multiple topics that talk about the same subject IMO.

Am I the only one who sees this thread as incredibly ironic?

Anyway, I don't think it should be done to excess, but I don't have a problem with it being done every now and then either. 😛

I honestly do not care, they are participating in the discussion so what exactly does it matter? I really do not like to see a forum cheat the stats and have multiple duplicate threads on the same subject all because the staff had an issue with a necrobump, it's really a turnoff for me.

I think it is important to not really post on a super old topic, as people may replies and stuff from people and point out flaws or opinions they differ in that the OP might actually differ from. However, I think you can bump old topics if they are like marketplace topics or even just topics where questions were never answered or such. I think common sense is something you really need to use here.

I think it's okay to bump old threads unless there's a reason for it. Usually, inactive threads in my forum goes to the Archives after a certain amount of time of inactivity. Once the thread is in the archive, and you want to bring back the topic, then creating a new thread is necessary.
