I would like to hear your thoughts on polygamy, I have heard that the women in the relationship are treated like slaves and I think it is a bit weird as well having multiple wives.

For those that don't know polygamy is a man that is married to more than one wife at a time.

I'm a Christian, and we believe that a man should only have one wife, so I think this is wrong.

Mormons do this quite often. They believe they need to have a lot of kids so when they die, they have a lot of "spiritual babies". If they have enough spiritual babies, they believe they get their own planet to live on and rule with their wives and spiritual babies.

I probably don't have all that 100% sound, but that's the gist of it.

I don't have any problems with polygamy as long as it's okay with all involved. I only have problem with polygamy if it's forced on very young girls, but that really only happens in the radical sects. If it's consensual, then I don't see any problem with it.

Polygamy is generally only favorable to the man in the relationships, with most men taking this philosophy:

A woman is like a lock, if many keys can fit into her hole and unlock her, she has less worth and is a slut. A man, on the other hand, is like a key, and if he can fit into many different locks it makes him a skeleton key with more worth; a player.

I have to disagree with polygamy because of this philosophy and double standards. Sure, if women could have multiple husbands as well was men having multiple wives, I guess it'd be okay, but unfortunately, that's not usually how it works out.

I was raised as a mormon, but no longer go to church nor believe in god any longer.[/note]

I have never heard any of that when I went to church. Infact I found when I was going to church Mormons have basically the same views as Christians. Ofcourse I did not pay to much attention in church anyways 😛.

So with that said. My views on the topic is they (the wives and husband) are fine with it why care?

I'm a Muslim and in Islam it is your choice but if you do have more than 1 wife then you have to treat them equally the same and treat them very good.

Frankly, I think that what people choose to do with their married life is their business. As long as all parties are consenting adults, that's on them.

I'm not just referring to one man having multiple wives, either. I also wouldn't care if one woman had multiple husbands. It's nobody's business but theirs. If they're happy, then so be it.

I once called the mormon hotline asking if I converted would I be able to practice polygamy and they said no. Bummer.

I have nothing against polygamy if all adults are consenting and have made their own minds up to live that way. The Sultan of Brunei has a harem of wives, he's one busy old Hector there

I agree here. While I think polygamy is morally wrong, I think as long as it is consensual it should be legal. Though it would be hard to prove consent in some of the radical Mormon sects, since these women are usually pressured into marriage, and despite any "consent," they most likely would not be happy in the marriage.

I have to agree. If your religion condemn's it, you have to remember, your religion is not the only one.

It's against most Christan sects, but I'd have to say it seems like a better solution, mainly cause guys want variety - like they do with video games.

I have nothing against polygamy, from my own point of view it helps the women. Statistics show that there more women on earth compare to men. In other to prevent certain weird practice going on around the world which unGodly it better men marry mother than one wife and they should try to do justice to a reasonable extent.

I always really enjoyed the idea of sleeping with more than one woman or having more than one girlfriend or wife. Mostly because it was some sexual day dream that I always had. But to be realistic. It's not possible for me. My mom would throw a fit and my grandmother would have a stroke if it did happen. Plus my wife isn't the type to share so I'm out of luck on that idea.

“Saturday night was for wives, but Friday night at the Copa was for the girlfriends” — Goodfellas

Whatever consenting adults do is their business, not mine. 🙂 It gets tricky when you consider insurance implications (do all my nine wives get covered under my one plan?) But that could be answered reasonably by limiting the number of wives covered to maybe five or six.

I was born and raised in a Catholic family that monogamy is the culture. However, I understand the society now that is getting to be very permissive. In that regard, I am amenable to a polygamous spouse provided it is a 2-way traffic which means the husband can have many wives and the wife can have many husbands as well. Fair enough?

If it's all consensual then I don't see a problem. I have some friends in those kinds of relationships and they seem happy in the arrangement.

I don't like how some religions use it to allow men to claim ownership over multiple girls and women. That's disgusting and should not be practiced.
