Well it depends on what kind of forum you have, YouTube is a good medium to promote yourself and other things but it is not for everyone. If your forums is about DIY stuff or tutorials than you can use YouTube or if you have a Media related forum than again its a good medium. Basically for any market strategy to be a success you should know your target audience, if the people you are targeting use YouTube than yes its a very good medium but if not than you just are wasting your time
Not me, but another member of the community made a video about how the forum works, and the key features it offers. It was just a recording of a computer screen aided by speech to advise others. It actually was the main source of traffic, most of our members came through that way. It was really successful and worked out well in our favor.

Now to be able to get something out of youtube you ether should make a guide on how to do things including a download link that's on your site or forum. It's not easy if you can't provide some kind of service in the forum that you are promoting in the video.
Success wit YouTube depends on your niche and your ability to catch viewer's attention in the first few seconds. Keep it short and upbeat. Optimize it like any other content - include keywords in the title and description, tags, transcribe the video.

If I could make a decent video that was like, nice, I probably would use YouTube for promotion. Though I have yet to use them to promote my site, I feel as if the video itself has to be great and flattering, otherwise it might reflect badly instead and knowing the YouTube community, I'd like to stay away until I can do it right. 😛
Apart from Youtube, Invest in CPM advertising, it would be much easier to accomplish that if you buy your traffic from a DSP like Bluagile since thay are connected with different ad exchanges therefore getting more access to different websites
I don't think this is a good idea unless you are advertising on an existing channel or a popular channel is creating a video for your website. You can't just create a channel for advertising your website because you will have no subscribers. If you can get a popular youtuber that creates videos about your niche and they are willing to help you, then it is a good idea.
When I was doing gaming videos I add the website URL in my videos. I had one joined from one of my vids. I made some blogs that's talking about joining my community. I even got one channel for baysidegamers and that only has one video showcasing the great gaming of the year
