Has anybody used YouTube to advertise their forums? Have many of you gotten results from it.

I can see it as working well for maybe, a gaming site were you could show up gaming tournaments and alike. Not sure about other genres though.

One of my Mods who has a big YouTube following has brought a member or two to my forums. No majorly active members yet, unfortunately.

How about you?

doesn't work because people come to youtube to watch videos not check out other websites from video embeds. If it does work then I'll delete this post. 😉

It does work. I know somebody who has only advertised on youtube and has over 1,000 members.

In most cases. But it IS possible..

What forum genre?

I'd say its possible if you're advertising within a topic that is relevant. Perhaps even if you upload a video that somewhat relates to the content of your site, and add a short beginning commercial showing that you can find related content at your site.

I don't think doing promo videos for a website itself necessarily works. I've made a few before and it's not an easy sell, because people aren't searching for that. So you have to find something you can draw off of.

For example I made a promo video for a website I work with, but it doesn't have much views because no one is searching for that sort of material.

Yes we have. My Moderator has made several YouTube videos already for my forum.

General Grievous, with your content you could just post links to your forum all over the star wars kid video. That video reaches all kinds, lol.

We've made at least 2 promo vids to be placed on Youtube. Hasn't really gotten us any new members. But it has helped to get us out there a bit more.

It "can" work for a specific genre, but I don't see it really working for a general discussion forum.

We've posted 1,000s of Brawl Match videos on youtube, while advertising the link in the youtube description. We've gotten a few active memebrs from it all, but it's not going to do anything amazing for activity.

Doesn't work at all unless..

1. Your just downright popular on Youtube. (5k+ friends, 1k+ subs)
2. Your the luckiest person alive and the video becomes viral.
3. Godlike tags?
4. Put a chick in her bra and panties in the thumbnail.

I think that one just pisses people off and makes them hate whatever you're plugging even more when they find out its a tease/advert.

I worked out great for one of my friends . If you are famous in youtube and you can create a reakky good video ; then surely it will draw traffic towards your site/forum .

Now you just need to become a Youtube sensation. :great:

I have had a few friends who used youtube for gaming related sites and it has worked wonders! 😀 They have like 5k subs and quite a few of them are also now members on their forums/websites!

It is one reason why I have ordered my hauppauge video recorder! Hopefully I can emulate some of the successes that people have had on youtube! 😀

Here's how to make your YouTube video go viral. Don't let the image fool you, there is no adult content in the video.

I've made a short video and uploaded it onto YouTube myself. But it's a short clip and it just contains text. There aren't many Japanese forums out there, so that's why I think my forum is unique enough. After posting some comments on various Japanese videos, I have gotten some hits but no new registrations as of yet.
