Chances are that if you are selling it, you won't be renewing it. For that, why should I not wait 1 month, spend $2 more and get 12 months rather than a few weeks for $8 and then need to spend $10 on its renewal. In the end, I save $8 for waiting 1 month.

I might just renew the domain and put it back on the shelf. You never know. This is an opportunity for somebody grab a relatively nice '.com' domain with an exact keyword that gets 18,100+ searches per month (est. according to AdWords).
