When referring to 'Post Your Pic/Member Pic' threads.

Ever have one of those members who will quote a females post and go "UR HAWT"?

I wanna smack the crap out of them. They act like horndogs who've never seen a female before..and 9 times outta 10, that isn't even their real pic.

I, myself might compliment a females picture with "you're very beautiful/pretty", but I'm not gonna post and be "UR SEXY LOL WHERE YOU LIVE?" Gah..just reminds me how pathetic some people are on the internet.

Go to Runescape, and you'll see this happen a lot.

Really though, when they do that...it just makes them sound pathetic in real life.

No thank you. 😛

50/50 says they really are pathetic. 😛

Oh my God, I hate it, though I find it worse on MSN when people say, "uR a Gur7 p1cZ p7x." I get one at least once a week or so. I do feel a little exploited like that. 🙁

I've even stopped mentioning my gender in forum intro topics because I hate the way people respond to it. At least if I've posted a little and people know my personality, they usually get a bit of a shock when I say I'm a girl, but they don't drastically change the way they speak to me, which is what I like.

I frequent gaming forums and I know that I'm naturally not the stereotypical gamer, but if I say I'm a girl from the get-go, people tend to respond with one of two options:
- "OMG PICS PLX."
- "Hey, it's okay that you're a girl, we'll take care of you anyway."
The first option is exploitation and the second is treating me like a baby. =_= I'm a gamer and I should be treated like any other gamer.

But yeah, that's my rant.

Yes... I find that discrimination very annoying as well. I'm not a girl, but I've found that quite a few of them have a lot more knowledge on gaming than myself. (and I've been gaming since I was 2) And I see discrimination in other genres too which is very annoying.

Too many immature people using the internet.

At least on forums, it's public and people can at least see the idiocy that goes on. On MSN it's terrible because it's private and if I say no, I get hounded with, "0h y n0T u uGly 0r sUmf1Nk." =.= For goodness sake, I don't go around asking people for their pictures... ARRGHH...

As sad as it is, that's life. Females always tend to get more crap from guys, especially if they are very attractive. 'Least females can do something called 'block' on MSN, and 'slap' in real life. 😀

Wouldn't recommend that, mainly because depending on what anger issues they have, they could very well retaliate.

And a slap wouldn't make them retaliate? At least a lower-kick may stun them for a moment or two... *flees*

I'm not really 'that' violent in real life... heehee...

Anyway... perhaps we should head back on topic? xD

I think part of the problem is the stereotypical view of many people. I count myself in that. Everyone assumes things based on stereotypes whether they know they do that or not.

Before i start, i don't mean to cause offence to anyone. Alot of gamers are mainly males. If you were to poll gamers, there would be more males then females. Gaming is more of a male thing. I am sure most female will admit that. The same could be said forums forum owners. If you were to do a poll here, a much bigger percentage of forum owners here are male then female. It is not anything bad or sexiest, it just is the way it is. There are many things that more girls are into then males. Because of this, people automatically assume without knowing that a new person on a gaming forum is a male due to the fact that it is usually the case. The same as here. Most people see a new member and just assume that based on the stereotype of forum owners being male, they assume the new member is male. When this stereotype gets broken, it makes it different as you are not an ordinary member. Instead you are (again no offence intended) different. I don't mean that in a negative way but it goes against the way people assume and because it is different people act different to how they would react to a male member.

That is why sometimes it may seem like males treat you "like a baby" or treat you different. People just react different to a female then a male, especially if it breaks the stereotype. There are some idiots that will go "OMG it's a girl. snd me foto now on MSN??????!!!?!" but that is the way it is as there is always going to be some idiots who have their brain somewhere other then their head hence why their posts are written so badly.

Nicely worded, Fowler. 🙂

I had a problem with that in the pictures thread on BC a while back. One guy kept saying that every girl that posted was ''hot''. When people told him that he was acting like a creep, he reacted by saying, ''Wow. Do you want me to say that she's ugly?''. I just told him to take out a thesaurus and learn some better adjectives. It solved the problem.

Regarding saying that a member of the opposite sex is good looking on the Internet, there is a fine line between making a nice compliment and being a creep. I have to say though, we never had anyone ask another person for their mobile phone number or MSN - at least in a public thread.

Regarding the sexism thing - I don't game myself so I cannot say, however I only know two girls who game in real life and many more guys. It seems to be a stereotypical male thing.

I don't even like those "Post Your Pics" threads or "Faces of <Insert Forum Name Here>" because you never know what may come of it. I haven't started a thread like that on my forum, and I don't think I ever will either, because I don't trust those threads, because you never know what they might say about it.

Same here. I don't allow those kinds of threads to spawn on my forum, as knowing someone's looks isn't that important (which is just my humble opinion), and people may not want to reveal their looks either.

But back on subject, I haven't seen anyone going daft over a photo of a girl in forums.

Usually a gallery is good enough.

For me as long as the Staff have their photos on the gallery then it is up to the members whether they do or not.

Had to ban a person from one forum I own due to him treating the place as a dating site.

Actually, there are a number of female forumers. You just have to find them. Looking up Disney stars, Twillight, teenage male celebrities and the word 'forum' into Google will give you the vast majority of female forumers. The only one I ever lurk (but even this is rarely) is Miley Fans... because I can.

Having said that, I actually dislike forums that are dominated by females, because I've found them to be very 'clique'-ish. And they say girls mature faster than boys... heh.

It depends on what's said. There's a difference between, "You're attractive," and "uR 53Xy n0 pLX."

I have seen my friends being bullied in forums because they are not physically attractive and when they rant.. members there go " no one gives a flying f**ck about your efeelings. This is net for god sake, no one should take whatever being said on here too seriously. Go cry somewhere else ".. It was a long thread war there between me ( i was attacked too because i helped my friends ), my friends and those wannabe tough people. some admins actually found this interesting or funny and decided to keep it open.. *sighs*

I personally don't take anything being said on net too seriously.. i could give a rat ass what people going to say about me or what I look like. I have learned to keep words in and outta my ears, so text don't really bothers me much.
