Re: rForums • Open Source Forum Software
Welcome to rForums!
1.5.1 Release
Welcome to the release of
rForums 1.5.1 or
rForums 1.5 (Patch 1). This is the first release of our software since we lost all progress on rForums 2, Toast.
We are very pleased to bring you this release today. It's an important step forward in the development of Toast, and we feel it shows that we are not just any forum software, but that we are dedicated to our product and we intend to stay.
While this is only a patch release, in this release, we introduced a number of new things to the software. We now have an improved design, making the software much more user friendly and beautiful - more on this later on. We've also fixed a number of bugs that the previous software (1.5) contained and ones that were found in subsequent 'development copies' released to the staff. We're very pleased with how the development has 'unrolled'.
We've also made some major design changes! We've added in a new banner, menu buttons and changed the whole forum look, as well as matching some of it to the current rForums.org site.
Due to this being the last release of the rForums version 1 Series, we're not accepting Bug Reports as we have no plans to fix them, however if you do find a bug feel free to post it on the Support Site, as another user may provide a fix.
We have also made a change to our License. We still operate under the Creative Commons 3.0 license, however we run on a rForums-Customised version of this. The new license can be found in the rForums 1.5.1 download package.
Another new feature is the release of our first set of Documentation. With the aim to keep the download as small as possible, we've only included the installation instructions as a .PDF file. Other documentation is available on the site - just follow the links from the Support Forum or Downloads page. Documentation has been written for all major features of this version and is available as .PDFs.
As rForums 1.5.1 doesn't have Language Support, the only supported language is en-US (US English). In rForums 2, Toast, multiple language support will be available.
Please read the license, readme and installation files before proceeding with the install to make sure you understand the software.
I personally would like to thank Russell and Colin for the hard work in making this release possible. When I brought the idea of re-releasing this to the table I never anticipated it to be this well accepted. And to all the staff of rForums who work hard to make rForums what it is.
So, without further ado,
We also now run a Public Support and Development Board at
http://www.support.rforums.org . This is ran on 1.5.1 and is maintained by the rForums Team, with support managed by Canada. We encourage you to join and keep in the loop of rForums.
As well, a demo of 1.5.1 can be found here:
http://www.rforums.org/demo/151 . This is to enable all users to try the software before you download it. If any of these passwords don't work, please drop a PM to an administrator for them to be reset.
