Firstly thanks to Fergal for letting me post this.

In 2013, I will be competing in not 1 but 13 official 10km races over the year. This was officially launched yesterday and the challenge is called 13inthirteen.

The challenge is to complete one official 10km race a month and to also set a PB at each race. One month I will have to compete in 2 races so I can hit the magic total of 13 races. The aim is to raise a total of £2013 for the NSPCC.

For those who don't know me my name is Richard Hayes and I'm a 30 year old from North Sheffield, this year I managed to lose over 4 stone in just under 4 months. This was partly due to my fondness for running. This year I have already completed two 10km races and I will be doing another one on the 2nd December.

The NSPCC is a charity that I have a lot time for and with my new found love of running I wanted to do something that is different and will get people talking about, this will hopefully raise a nice total for the charity and raise awareness at the same time.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

You all can help by either liking the Facebook or Twitter pages, spreading the word on your sites and social accounts or by sponsoring via JustGiving which anyone world wide can donate to.

Feel free to ask me questions and let me know how you have spread the word and will get mentions on FB and other publicity posts for those who help me get the word out

Well done Richard, good for you, that's a very worthy endeavour and a great cause.

I've added a "Sponsor" tag to this topic to help give it some publicity. I hope it all goes very well for you and I wish you the very best of luck with it.

Good luck with this and welldone.

I also love walking and running so share what you have there. 😉

Thanks for the support, I urge you all to like the Facebook and Twitter pages to help give the challenge more exposure, I will keep the topic update as the challenge progresses.

I am doing a 10km race a week tomorrow and that will be the time I will need to beat on the 27th Jan when the first one starts.<br /><br />-- 26 Nov 2012 10:49 --<br /><br />Monday morning and only 6 days until the Percy Pud my warm up 10km run. This morning another 5km run completed in 26:52 with an avg of 5:21 min/km so training is going well, Gym later for a cardio hour.

Also we are 2% into our fundraising target, if any one or any site would like to help in anyway drop me a PM

Perhaps we can give this more exposure on the FP community by adding a link in our signature to the "justgiving" page.

In such case I'll add it already in my signature.

The code:
(For anyone who wants to use it like it shows up in my sig.)

Code:

Also +1'd, tweeted and liked the "justgiving" page.

I just completed a 10km race today and knocked off 5min of my PB 🙂

Well done! For 10km that's a very good time! 🙂 good luck with the rest of them!

Well done on getting all that publicity Bricksan, it should be very helpful to your fundraising campaign.

Thanks, so far so good. It will be two weeks tomorrow since I launched it and the response has been great, just trying to get as much publicity as possible, then when I am halfway through I should be able to get plenty of sponsors.

It seems that way, what is amazing is press are contacting me. My phone has not stopped ringing this week but the press coverage is great. Plus we are 15% towards our target now as well

I donated £3 to your cause. I know it's not a lot but I got made redundant so just donating what I can.

Thanks for doing this 🙂
