For a gaming computer is 8GB of RAM enough or is it best to have 16GB?

I think 8GB is "okay", but you'd certainly still see the benefit if you went with 16GB. If you're doing gaming with 8GB, you'd probably have to end up terminating your running programs to free up memory for any game you're running. The jump up to 16GB would be worth the money, and would also do future-proofing.

I'm running 8GB and Carson summed it up well. I do find occassionally that I need to end some processes, which is slightly annoying. I'd go 16GB, but if you need to make a cut due to cost, I'd cut here.

8GB should be enough for games like League of Legends, Dota 2, and World of Warcraft.

You should check the system requirements for most games to decide if 8 GB or 16GB is recommended for most games you play.

If you don't have much money, sticking with 8 GB, and installing a faster video card like a Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 would increase your video performance more in games because a lot of games these days are very video intensive, and need a fast video card to play at better video settings.

You can also always install an extra 8GB of RAM in the future. 8GB of RAM maybe cheaper as well because of the falling price of DDR3 RAM which gets cheaper as newer and faster types of RAM like DDR4 are released.

I do agree, and you'll be prepared for future games! Might as well upgrade now ;]

16GB if you're playing games like ESO and newer games you can expect 6-7GB to in use.

I believe it won't be to much longer the games released later this year will be using 8GB.

I would say 16gb is sufficient, its a 1 time cost that will allow you to do everything without worrying about memory. Plus you won't have to worry about upgrading for at least few years. 😛

Coming from someone who has eight gigs, you should definitely go for sixteen.

You might as well just go with 16GB, there is no downside. Go big or go home. 😉

And if you ever wanted to sell it, you would have a bigger appraisal price for a 16GB rather than that of a 8GB computer.

I've been playing a lot of games with 8GB, a friend used to have 16GB but then he had to drop to 8GB he saw no difference.

Though I agree with the above, DDR3 16GB kits are kind of cheap and plus you'll be future proofing your machine.

It really depends on what you're running in addition to the game. There currently aren't any games that will (combined with your OS) make full use of 8gb.

They are getting pretty close though. Like ESO as an example uses 6-7GB easily. When the newer games come out for PC such like The Division, etc later this year. Maybe even Witcher 3 may use 8GB at least.

It depends. If you are running simple games such as minecraft and others, 8G. If you are running heavy loaded games such as Skyrim and others, 16G. 🙂

It really depends on what games you're playing but it's obviously better to go with a larger RAM.

my old Asus RoG was 16GB and ran fine. I wouldn't go anything less than 16GB for a gaming computer. My current RoG as 32GB 😀

Well it really depends on the games you are planning to play, If you could afford it 32GB RAM would be more ideal to use because of current and future games.
