Have you ever Joined a forum, and found that they all the regular members just talk to each other, And talk about things in the past, Its as if the community has gone too "close" and is kind of pushing new members out?

Yes the first forum I ever joined was like that, it was all a group of friends and no one else who was active

I have never experienced what you are saying but I understand what you mean.

On one forum I been on most of the time it was just a few members talking about stuff not on the topic the forum is.

Yeah with the forums i was on the people had no ability to stay on topic.

I find that a community of "very close" friends can be very discouraging if you're trying to get involved as a new member. Some time ago i joined a Forum that was promoted here - they had 7 or 8 highly active members. If you'd reply to a message, you'd often find the next poster quotes a message above you and replies to that - completely blanking out your comment. ~neutral~

Hmm, that sometimes happens on the FFF, but not massively as we welcome new members with open arms and always try and get them to join in!

That happens to me quite a lot, I especially hate it when you get the last post on a page also ~cry~

It's mainly less experienced forum owners that it happens to so it wouldn't affect you.

We do tend to get off-topic a bit on my forum, though we usually get back on shortly.

Hmmm the forum i am most active on has been around for years and though i'm one of the most active people i am part of the community and vip, there is this long history a lot of the active members know about that i don't

however, there is loads of new members too

Nah...never experienced this lol. And I hope I never will! 😀.

I'm sure it can happen to any forum lol

It happened to me on CMF, i felt like no one wanted to know me or know i was there when i was posting. Thats one thing that put me off.

Yeah, it happens to most if not all forums, that's why the staff is there to keep new members happy by replying to them and be friend them as much as possible, also, I see some forums have welcoming groups to look after the new members to make them feel at home more.

I have never seen this happen on the forums i visit as the forums i visit and have joined have over 200 posts a day and new members are joining daily!

Well if you feel like that close community is shunning you, you can just go to another forum. There is millions out there.

Yea, I'm stuck in one of these communities for the past 3 yrs as a moderator. I've seen many friends come and go... majority of the regulars are spread out anywhere from europe to usa to asia to aussie. It's pretty diverse among it's population.

They all talk with each other via IRC/MSN/AIM/Facebook/ect. Heck, there are some people who ARE DATING each other because they met on the forum.

Unfortunately, this community... I don't see a lot of acceptance towards new people who are often thought as... spammers and trolls. =/

Any ideas?

Yes that is the reason why I made my own forum. I was sick and tired of feeling unwelcome in new forums.

Same i'm part of a community that has the same problems

The admin decided to one delete the debate/drama section, not allow any swearing, not allow cap locks and many rules

It has worked to a degree but I don't agree on the deleting the section
