It's a constant debate between forum/blog/website owner... what side are you on? Are you for Adblock or against it?

Since I don't put ads on my site at all, I am for it, don't care if my members use it and I use it myself.

Makes internet browsing a much more pleasant experience for me, personally.

Ad-block is only really necessary for ads that are forced upon you, either through audio or by having to click/wait past. I only use it in protest for sites that fit into that criteria.

On my forum, the ads that are run are very minimalistic, and only appear for unregistered users. There's a single banner ad partitioned in a designated area after the first post of every topic page. If a member has adblock, then there's a red box that fits in the same space, which explains that it helps to maintain the site, and it would be appreciated if we were whitelisted with their ad-block. It also mentions that registered members do not receive ads, so that's an extra incentive to sign up.

I don't personally mind if people use adblock on my site or not, because the adblock message is twice as annoying as an ad (simply by being red). However for most sites and such, ad revenue is the only source of income. It's rude to block ads if they're non-intrusive.

I wouldn't say its rude as the ad-block extension stays on 24/7 & automatically removes the ads on any site the user happens to visit.
... Its not like people are individually analyzing each and every site they visit to see if the ads are intrusive or non-intrusive.

I am not against or for adblockers. The thing is that some people want a better experience online so its perfectly fine to use an adblocker. However you also have to realise that the owner of the website put a lot of work and effort into their website and they just want to earn some extra income from ads. If the ads are not all over the place, I think you shouldn't use adblocker as it doesn't ruin your experience and you can also support the website owner.

I've been using Chrome's ad block plugin and it's great. Certain sites I use often would actually not even work correctly because they had so many ads. I even had to open a support ticket once because an ad opened ITSELF without me even clicking it. Very annoying.

As a webmaster, I kind of have to have adblock installed to prevent myself from accidentally clicking own my own ads. But in addition to that, I think it's pretty useful. It's annoying to me as a forum owner, and I wish y'all would turn it off for my forums, but there are occasionally ads so annoying, like those in videos, that the reason there are so many ads is because half the people are using adblockers, so you might as well join the group of people who are suffering less, despite contributing to the problem. 😛

I use adblock but whitelist sites I use on a regular basis. I run ads on a couple of sites and show a notice if the guest is using adblocking software.

i couldnt care less if people use adblock, even on my site if i have ads, lol... this should be something that we do as a hobby in my humble opinion

Well this can result in 2 different cases:

CASE #1
No adblock -> user experience gets lowered.
Webmaster with ads -> increase revenue.
CASE #2
adblock enabled -> user experience at its best.
Webmaster with blocked ads -> less revenue.

It is a win/lose situation for each case. For being a webmaster, ads help pay for hosting and development toward the site rather having my users pay for membership or something. I think ads should be blocked if they are annoying like pop ups, viruses, etc. the worse ads. Like text ads and general images should be acceptable for most people.

I use Ad Block occasionally. It depends on what I'm doing. I'll usually have it on while browsing websites like Facebook or YouTube, but will have it disabled for others like Forum Promotion. I understand why webmasters are against it, because after all it hurts their revenue at the end of the day. At the same time, it encourages webmasters to use ads that aren't extremely obnoxious. I particularly hate audio or popup advertisements.

Same. I am completely dependant on adblock. I won't use another browser that doesn't use it.

I can't stand annoying ads or the dangerous ones that load up a trojan or some sort of malware on my computer.

So to me its necessary.

It makes money..........however it also is tacky (especially if you have a nice website design or forum design) and can annoy people. lol. I'm all for AdBlock, it makes websites I visit nicer to browse, and safer. Ecspecially if you have kids, (I do not have any) but if I did, adblock would not budge.

That and YouTube is AMAZING when you do not have to listen to ads. <3

I cant say if I am for or against adblocker. I hate ads but ads are one of the way that a website/forum/blog can earn money. I use adblocker but have disabled it for few forums and websites, where the ads are not annoying and are very less.

I'm neutral on this. I use it myself, yet if I really like the site I will turn it off to help support it. Sometimes I have to turn it back on because the site has so many.

It just makes browsing the web so much more enjoyable.

I use it and I don't care that I am blocking them haha. It feels rude, but I really hate ads. I know it is how they get income, but I don't like them, so i block them 🙂

This is the year of 2015, there has to be a way to start making money without placing tacky and horrible ads everywhere.

Definitely on the same page.

I don't really put ads on my forum, so I don't have to think about it much. Even if I did I wouldn't be miffed if my members blocked my ads. Sure, it'd suck for revenue, but I wouldn't feel right forcing members to look at ads when they don't want to. If they want to unblock it? Go for it.

I also agree with the person who commented about if I had kids I'd definitely have adblock all the time. There are too many porn ads and sketchy ads on certain sites. Not so much on forums I've gone to, but I've seen it on some searches, blogs, and whatnot. Varies on where you look.

I definitely love that I don't have to watch YouTube ads. I can't stand those things.

The only time adblock becomes a pain is on ForumPromotion, specifically for Featured Sites. For the longest time I wondered, "What... is this grey rectangle next to quick reply for?" Then I turned off adblock for a bit and was able to see it. Otherwise it doesn't change my experience on FP much at all.

I don't mind people using it for certain sites but is there really point in having ads turned off for sites like Forum Promotion etc.? There are literally very little ads and the ones that are there are not effecting your browsing experience in any way. However there are other sites that spam you with ads and those sites are the ones where adblock must be used

I don't mind if people use AdBlock on my forum because I don't display any advertising on it.
