What would you do if you had a staff member that demanded to be promoted to Administrator or they quit?

Has this ever happened to you? Have you ever been the one doing the demanding?

Never happened to me nor have I ever seen it happen. If they were a good poster, I would say no, and tell them to apply for moderator or something. If they were new or something I would probably ban them.

Why would you tell them to apply for a moderator if they were already a moderator (or other staff position you had)?

I never said they were a moderator. They wouldn't be a moderator much longer if they did that though.

Are you talking about a member or a staff member? If it's a member, why are they there? If it's a staff member, let him quit.

This happens to me all the time. I tell them no and if they really annoy me I ban them.Sometimes these are my friends though and I have a decision to make.

The topic title is "Admin me or I quit" how could a regular member quit anything? They arent staff.
The original post says: "if you had a staff member that demanded to be promoted to Administrator "

I dont see how there is any confusion here.
😕

I'd ask why they want to be an admin. If they have a good enough reason, I might consider it. If not, I'd let them quit.

I've seen this on another forum and really loathe those who decide that this is the way to handle things. Usually they are just immature people, being the owner's puppet, and just aiming at becoming an admin. When other members see this, they tend to leave.

Fine then.

The question is very vague. It's impossible for, at least me, to give a very good answer, as this is an issue that relies a whole lot on the request. If it's mature, then maybe you should consider it. Otherwise, then let them quit.

Would show them the door to be honest, In 10 years I have never seen or felt the need for a 2nd admin and my member base were/are aware of this from the start so they would be barking up the wrong tree with me on this one

I would never hire an admin because of an ultimatum. That shows they are concerned about the power and not about the site.

I pick people who argue with me about being admins, and think they can't do a good job. They always do.

Demoted on the spot. People like that are the last sorts of people I would trust with that kind of power.

Same here, I'd tell them to be happy with the position they already have or walk away, for me an admin is the brains behind the project with the passion and drive to do all the things necessary to make a site a success, you only need another admin if you are struggling by yourself to do the day to day chores that your site has and even then you would chose wisely over who was both capable and trustworthy enough to help you out.

I would show them the door with my foot fimrly up their back sides.

It also depends on how you treat them, it'd be better your friends before you'd hire them, but if it is someone looking for a position, by being kind you could start a lasting friendship with them like I have with alot of my online pals.
