Admin Me or I quit!

They should be on the staff because they enjoy the forum and enjoy helping/contributing in any shape or form.... Not because they are trying to work their way to admin.. Then decide at some point that they've waited long enough and started making demands then leave because they didn't get what they wanted..

I don't think someone has ever done that on my forum.
That's why I have a rule that if you ask to be staff(Besiding sending application), you aren't becoming one because you then have annoyed me. lol

I haven't had this on my forum. I've made one an Admin because he is very active, logs on regulary and helps the forum out. I made another an Admin because he is my best friend in real life and also posts a lot and keeps the forum active. These 2 promotions happened over 2 years ago. Since then I've actually fired moderators rather than promote them. I do not need any any more Admins, nor could I EVER see my current moderators saying such a thing. We're like 1 big family over there and they were honoured to be made a moderator, let alone demand to be an Admin.

I've never had a staff member do this, but I've had a member demand to be staff before. The first time around we had promoted them on good terms because we wanted help in a certain area of our board, but they suddenly disappeared without any notice and despite our messages to them they hadn't logged in in what became a month or so. We demoted them, and several weeks later they returned asking for it back and when we refused they were really disrespectful and put most of the blame on the other admin. When this admin later retired, they messaged me again to become staff and when I refused, they insulted the board, which proved to us even more that they were unfit for the position. I later found out that during this 'absence' which they provided an 'excuse' for, they had actually went out and made their own board so they had basically been lying the whole time as well.

My admins I've known for 3 years and they've been kind to me 😛

you've known me for 3 years?

In response to this topic:
I have actually had new members on some old forum i was given say "Make me an admin or i will quit and never come back" He had about 2 thousand posts and was a valued contributor, so i decided to say i would make him head moderator to at least give him a staff position and keep him happy. I decided to do that because as you said, admins are the ones who have been there from very close to the start, and are just all around good members. This member had had 4 warnings and one 2 week ban. I think it was smart of me not to admin him because he went crazy with power and started banning people. So i perma and ip banned him. So from that experience, anyone who whines to me about being staff, has to reeeally prove themselves to me, and then they MIGHT get the positions. And as for asking to be admin, i have done it a few times in my first year of foruming, bu not anymore.

I've had that happen to me before....and they got fired before they could quit...

I'd rather just let them quit.. That's me though.
However if you are worried you are going to do something bad before they quit then you should remove them. Depends on the maturity of the staff member I suppose though.

Although, if they were mature, I don't see them asking to be an admin in the first place.

What would you do if you had a staff member that demanded to be promoted to Administrator or they quit?

Has this ever happened to you? Have you ever been the one doing the demanding?

You let them quit. Obviously they have a personal agenda with your site, and it won't be in lock step with yours.

I'd tell them to quit. XD

Seriously. Nobody has a place in demanding anything from the board's owner. If my staff ever demanded a promotion--especially in that manner--I think my jaw would hit the floor, for one, and they'd probably get a prompt DEmotion.

I tell them they have no right to ask for such thing and end the convo there. If they continued I would kindly (in a hellish way) show them the banned member's exit.

 @ the "Kindly in a hellish way". That'd be an interesting one.

If someone pestered me for a staff position on my forum, I would explain to them that we are not looking for staff at this time, but if we were, and if I had some sort of application for people to fill out, I would redirect the person to such a topic and have them fill out the application if he was so interested. Then, if he didn't fill it out, it would become obvious to me that he honestly wasn't in the position, and if he asked me again, I would tell him no, since he didn't show any desire to be in the position the first time, and then if he persisted, or worse, started posting in every thread that I refused him a staffing position, I would happily show him the door, as he's got no reason to brag that I or anyone else refused him a position.

I would thank them for their continued service and let them know that we currently do not need any additional Admins for the site. I know it happens every day on forums, and I've even had it happen on work related forums I run.

Admin is the owner in my eyes. Unless you don't know anything about forums and you need to bring in another Admin, who essentially would be your Partner then. Tell them no kindly, and if they leave/quit they never gave a crap about your site to begin with and were only in it for the eventual chance of asking to be a Admin and figuring they would buddy up to you to get it.

I had this on a few older sites, but as I attracted a more mature audience on ETF this didn't happen. Except for one instance when an ex-admin wouldn't use the site unless he was an administrator - he claimed the site was nothing without him...

It succeeded more when he left.

I'd tell him to find his way off the forum to be honest. You don't get an admin position by begging.

I would show them to the door. That's not anything to demand. Earn the position in your actions.

I would rather let him/her leave. Just by the context of "Admin me or I'll leave" shows off this imaginary person's childish behavior.

I have never done this, and this has never happened to me, and if it did then, I'd "quit" for them. If they are demanding to be an admin then chances are, they want to be admin for the wrong reasons. If it were a member doing this then I'd respond with a ban.

That said, I'd demote them immediately. I don't respond [nicely] to threats or ultimatums.
