well guys i me here for more than a month now, what are your ratings about my grammer? i know its gonna be pretty low but i would love to see what you all have to say about this,
10 is the pefect and 1 is the least,
Honestly, I'd give it about a 5. Maybe less. It's terrible. :S

I mean, it's wrong from the start because you've completely forgotten about putting a capital letter at the start of your sentence. To me, that's just lazy, particularly because you learn that in first grade and it takes less than half a second to reach for the shift key to make it capital.

There should be a comma after 'guys'.

Then you've got the 'i me here' thing, which should be 'I have been here' or 'I've been here' for short.

Not sure about your next comma. You could have put a full stop there, or you could have added the word 'so'.

The comma after 'this' should certainly be a full stop.

You've also spelt 'perfect' wrong.

That's all I can see for the moment.

You're manifestly correct. It was a comma splice. Independent clauses must be separated by a semicolon or a comma and a coordinating conjunction (FANBOYS).

Oh my God, Grammar junkies! 😀

Hello members of this homely community. I am but a humble donkey coming to graze upon your threads. I recently discovered your forum through Google and I'm most anxious to become an active members here. Alas, I am not much good at creative writing, although with a site named ''Be Creative'' who's motto is ''Unleash your Imagination'' I should hope that that would change.

Due to constraints placed upon me by a dreadful institution called ''school'' I shall not have as much time to be on this site as I may wish. However I shall drop by intermittently and perhaps post one or two pieces of my own. For although I am but a mediocre writer now, I shall endeavour to better my craft.

Without further delay I shall begin discovering what wonders there are to be found here!
I hate people who write like that. There is writing in a professional manner and then there is writing like that which is just too over the top.

I honestly do not mind in the slightest individuals who write in a formal tone. what bothers me are members who attempt writing formally to an extent where they are making a bunch of silly mistakes and their sentences don't make sense.

as I stated earlier, I don't mind informal English either. I'm perfectly fine with grammatical mistakes so long as they are not the result of an attempt to sound smart. :great:

So many grammar topics.. 😛
I dont care how people talk as long as I can understand what they are trying to say.

Fantanoice, you have now been demoted from "The Grammar Junkies", for the following reason:

You said "BRB".

I must confess that I find your displeasure on this count most amusing. For, as an Irishman, I have always associated such pretentious speech with those who strive to emulate the British Aristocracy. To here an Englishman condemn it so is music to my dear ears. Perhaps this Irishman's prejudice has overwhelmed his wit...

Maybe it's because I've been writing for about half an hour to an hour a day since I've been age 15 (and up to three hours a day in the summer), but posting ''dictionary'' is not that hard.

When I was fifteen I wrote some shockingly cheesy High Fantasy with Gods that spoke in Elizabethan English. Trust me, it's ten million zillion times harder to write than that ''dictionary'' posted above. For a start some of the verbs are conjugated differently (similar to German in a way). English at that time also had a Dative case, similar to what they have in German. The nominative for ''you'' is ''thou''. If you stick ''to'' or ''with'' in front of it, it puts it in the Dative, ie. ''to thee'', ''with thee''. And then you have ''thy'' or ''thine'' which is the Genitive and occurs after certain prepositions. There are also a load of words that have gone out of fashion entirely but existed in Elizabethan times. No one uses the word ''argosy'' for ''ship'' anymore...

Yeah, I know plenty of people who can write proper ''dictionary''. It isn't really that hard and all you have to do is read (or write :lol🙂 the wrong kind of books.

Thank You Fanatico(edit: its fantanoice), But actually i was not asking about only that particular post, it was a random question about all my posts here at FP. Anyways you are a good critique and one could learn some grammer from your reviews.
But a little question for you though, How is my grammer in this post?

You should capitalize your I's. You spelled Grammar wrong. :O :O I just realized Fantanoice spelled Spelled wrong. He put "spelt". 🙁 He has disappointed me.

I have to admit it really turns me off to see a lot of grammatical mistakes and chatspeak. I am only with one here or there, because I know it's easy to make typing mistakes, but when there is an abundance of them it looks really unprofessional.

Hate to rain on your parade, but "spelt" is a perfectly legitimate past participle of the verb to spell.

''Spelled'' is more common in American English and ''spelt'' is more common in British English, or so I believe.

Since I've spending more time on American Message Boards, I've been using ''spelled'' a lot more.

honestly, folks, there are times for formal english, and there are times for standard english, and there are times for informal english. as an english teacher, i do not dwell on wording and sentence structure in forum posts as i do when writing a formal paper. i do not burst out into tears when i spot a fragment. relatedly, i have been known to give my students handouts, even mentor texts, in all lowercase letters.

many children - especially the best and the brightest - tend to latch onto grammar and such conventions because they feel their knowledge of these practices goes hand in hand with their intelligence. the way i see it, grammar is a means by which to express yourself. we teach elementary and middle schoolers grammar rules so that they are able to make sense. with a great familiarity with conventions, however, comes a creative license. nobody complains when a nobel prize winning author talks about three entirely separate topics in his 'i believe' paper instead of the traditional single topic. nobody gives when a college composition professor purposefully uses a fragment in a memoir of his.

grammar is overrated. really, it's all about expression.

It's all about having to know the rules inside and out, before you can break them.

Fanta spelt 'spelt' correctly because she spells in Australian English, not American.

Also, I see you, {iTeenChat}, spelt 'she' incorrectly. You wrote 'he'.
