It's been more than a week, Geoffrey 🙁

I think Geoffrey has had some issues connecting to the forum, unfortunately. Have you changed hosting providers recently?

Nope.

Hi Clara,

Unfortunately, as Cosmic said, I am unable to view your forum. I was going to complete your review a few days ago but saw a 404 error saying this page does not exist. Unless you want me to review that page, please be patient while you wait for another reviewer to take up this request. I apologize for the inconvenience but the situation is out of my hands.

I was hoping the issue would resolve itself and it was just a temporary DNS issue, but the 404 error still exists so I'm afraid I cannot complete your review.

I'm going to officially untag this review and mark it as staff needed so another team member can help you.

Thanks,
Geoffrey

I will tag this and complete the review later today. 🙂 We are sorry for the delay.

First Impressions
[note]========== BEGIN - First Impressions ==========[/note]
The first thing I noticed about your forum, which kept irking me, was the logo. I do not like the animation. It is very distracting, and not really necessary. The theme you are using is pretty good, but I don't think it really fits the subject which your forum is about. Overall, there is nothing actively bad about my first expression except for the logo, so I am scoring this section as Average.

Design Quality
[note]========== BEGIN - Design Quality ==========[/note]
As said in the previous section of this review, your design is not related to One Piece, except for the logo. I recommend choosing forum-specific icons which are related to your niche to liven things up again, and maybe adding in a couple of images here and there, such as in the corner of category headers, to make your forum look more lively. Regarding your logo, I recommend removing the animation, and adding a shadow to make it stand out more. That said, you did pick a good theme, and I think it's a good one to base an improved theme on. You need to focus on improving that theme by making modifications to it, rather than starting with a completely new theme.

Site Statistics
[note]========== BEGIN - Site Statistics ==========[/note]
The statistics for this website are very good, overall. 21,000 posts is excellent for a forum started in 2014, and with 154 members as well. Your statistics related to one piece, specifically, though, are very disappointing. I count about 1,000 one-piece related posts, going by the statistics for each forum. If your forum will continue to be about one piece, I recommend focusing more on that aspect. If not, it is perfectly acceptable to change what your forum is about. That said, your forum does have a good post count, so kudos for the hard work!

Staff Professionalism
[note]========== BEGIN - Staff Professionalism ==========[/note]
The first thing I noticed in regards to your staff is that Administrators and former staff have the same username color. This is very odd, in my opinion. I recommend finding a new color. When looking at your team page, you appear to have a reasonable number of stuff members. It is odd that Shaurya, an administrator, has not logged in for a couple weeks, although it is possible that (s)he has announced an absence, and if that's the case, then it's fine. When examining post counts, I noticed that yours is pretty small. Are you the owner of the forum? If so, I highly recommend posting more often on the forum.

I also noticed a few issues with the professionalism of staff posts within the new and announcements forum.

1. There seem to be semi-frequent grammatical errors in announcement posts. Good grammar is difficult, and I'm sure you could find a couple of mistakes somewhere in this review, but I still recommend working on this, particularly for announcements.

2. Regarding this post here: http://onepieceforum.net/Thread-Recruitment--7970 I realize that you are catering to your anime audience here, but some of the post was difficult to read. I recommend mixing professionalism together with flavor, rather than making the post too "fun."

That said, your staff team is pretty well balanced. There are a few issues, but you are doing fairly well in terms of staff professionalism.

Originality
[note]========== BEGIN - Originality ==========[/note]
I am not aware of any other one-piece related forums advertised here on FP. I'm sure that there are others, but this seems to be a relatively small niche. However, there is nothing much to differentiate you from your competition. In fact, on Google, I found a competiting forum which is much better than yours in many aspects. There's nothing you can't fix, but I think you need to work on this.

The website I am referring to is: http://opforum.net/

Their design has been customized to specifically relate to one piece, which makes it look very good and much more professional. Also, they have a better post count, although your post count is competitive. The best thing about this forum, though, is that it has a lot of content relating to one piece, even as a percentage. About 1/20 of your posts are related to one piece. For this forum, 45/178 posts are about one piece. That's 0.05%, compared to 25%.

Originality has many aspects. One is how many competitors you have. Another is how your competitors compare to you. What does your forum have to offer that your competitors do not?

Site Structure
[note]========== BEGIN - Site Structure ==========[/note]
Your website structure needs a lot of work, in my opinion. I will focus on the one-piece related forums, as these are the most important. The three general forums related to one piece (Anime, Manga, and General) should all be merged together, in my opinion. You can use forum prefixes to indicate threads related specifically to the manga, so that people will not accidentally ready spoilers. "One piece fun corner," in my opinion, isn't terribly specific. I recommend splitting that forum up into several specific forums, all on the index page. The competitor forum I mentioned under the originality section does this very well.

Very Poor

Grammar & Spelling
[note]========== BEGIN - Grammar & Spelling ==========[/note]
There are some grammatical and semantic errors which I would like to point out in your structure. First of all, I recommend spelling out your forum names as titles. That means capitalizing the letter of each word (with a few exceptions, such as "of." For example, "One piece anime discussions" should be "One Piece Anime Discussions." There are two reasons for this. First of all, it is technically incorrect to spell "One piece," because One Piece is the name of a proper noun, and should be capitalized as "One Piece," just like the Dickens novel "Great Expectations" is not spelled "Great expectations." Second, since the forum is itself a title, it makes the most sense to treat it as such, and to capitalize each letter. While this may not be technically incorrect grammar, it is a convention used by almost all forums, and one I recommend you follow. Whatever you decide, make sure to be consistent, as some of your forum names do capitalize each word.

Final Remarks
Your forum needs a lot of work. It is a very valuable forum, with what seems to be a good community, but you need to work on your design and structure, and you need to make your forum more unique from your competition.

This is a good forum, and I believe it can, will, and has gone far! Good luck!

When I look at the forum it just may be my eyes but I had a hard time reading what the logo says at first.

Other than the forum logo, your forum feels generic since I have seen a bunch of forums that have the white red and blue color scheme. It also just might be me but I am not a fan of pure white backgrounds too many forums have it and it is too bright on my eyes.

I recommend getting a new forum color scheme that fits one piece more.

Thank you Cosmic and Annadog 😀
Most of the professional forums, recommend light colored themes.

Anyway, we are going to get a new custom theme soon 😀

Firstly, I think you should get a mobile friendly theme as a lot of people access forums on their mobile nowadays. However your site is looking great otherwise. Good luck with it!

Thank you for your feedback, MasterA 😀

I liked the categories and sections in the forum. I also like the color. Forum looks professional and simple.

To be honest I did not like the logo and there is popup saying hello guest, I think you should change the coloring or remove it.

I think you should make the buttons and sub-forum bigger because there quite small, However your site looks amazing, well done! 🙂

Design Quality
[note]========== BEGIN - Design Quality ==========[/note]
You have many themes to choose from, which allows users to pick a theme that suits them. I recommend you keep all of them because this allows everyone to have a custom and unique forum and browsing experience. Your custom/default theme is very good, and it fits in with your niche of Anime and Manga. I recommend putting who designed your theme as a link in the footer, as I know myself I am always curious about things like that so others might be also.
Nothing extravagant, just "theme designed by ______" with their name being linked to their website, portfolio, etc.. Your "call to action box" is overlapping the logo and theme currently, you might want to move it to the lower right hand corner instead so that it won't be as distracting. Here is a screenshot explaining what I mean: http://awesomescreenshot.com/0584rtm2c6. I also do not think the text needs to be shadowed as much as it is.

Site Statistics
[note]========== BEGIN - Site Statistics ==========[/note]
At the time of writing this review, you have 26,348 posts in 1,559 threads.Those are very good statistics, so kudos to you. You have 482 members, which isn't bad either considering the amount of posts and threads you have. You only get 5.15 threads a day, which is a little worrying. There should be way more than that, considering you average around 80 posts a day. To encourage more thread posting, you should have staff posts fresh discussions every day, and then the users will follow.You have many niche posts, which is a good sign. I would recommend condensing some of your general forums to highlight the main focus of your forum, which is One Piece.

Staff Professionalism
[note]========== BEGIN - Staff Professionalism ==========[/note]
One Piece Forum really struggles with the area of staff professionalism. It is a big weak point that needs improving. A lot of your staffs posts are not high quality, have bad spelling and grammar, and are unprofessional. To fix this, you could write up some more strict staff guidelines that staff have to follow or they will get fired. Strict I know, but this may be the only way to get them to reform.
You could also give them some examples on how to respond to feedback, questions, and comments because I have seen a few instances of staff not being the friendliness to users (a.k.a. being rude). Another thing I recommend is for you, Clara, to be a little more active on the forum. As an admin, users expect to see you around posting a lot more than you currently do. This might be making some users inactive or not as active as they could be also.

Originality
[note]========== BEGIN - Originality ==========[/note]
Now with your custom theme, you have a bigger chance against larger competitors, such as http://opforum.net/. When I googled "one piece", your forum is not the first one that popped up. I suggest you increase your SEO efforts, that will really help get your search engine rankings up. That will also make OPF more visible to the Anime and Manga community, which is good for both of you. Another thing they have over ou is an increased social presence on the internet.

Site Structure
[note]========== BEGIN - Site Structure ==========[/note]
Your site structure is not terrible, but it can be improved upon. For instance, the three forums related to One Piece (Anime, Manga, and General) can all be merged. They are all related to One Piece. "Battle Zone" can be added to "Community". All the forums with in community can be merged into one big forum as well. "Advertising" and "Competitions" could be removed also, as they aren't very big or popular. If you want them to stay, merge them together also.

Grammar & Spelling
[note]========== BEGIN - Grammar & Spelling ==========[/note]
As I mentioned above in the "Staff Professionalism" category, most of your staffs posts are not grammatically correct and have a lot of spelling mistakes. I understand that English may not be their first language, there are ways around that.
To remedy this, have all of your staff run their posts through a grammar and spell checker. I recommend this spell checker: https://www.jspell.com/public-spell-checker.html and this grammar checker: http://grammark.org/. Overall, One Piece Forums did poor in this section.
[note]========== END - Grammar & Spelling ==========[/note]
Very Poor

Final Remarks
With a few improvements and minor fixes, I think that One Piece Forums can continue to thrive and succeed. You are doing a great job already, so don't give up. Good luck Clara!
