As a fairly oldish person, I want to know what others think about the following question:

If someone applied to be a staff member on your site/forum do you take into consideration their age and if so why?. Or do you not think age is relevant for them applying to be a staff member?

I personally don't really care about age. It is more how old they behave. Some 14 year olds can be more hardworking and mature then some 22 year olds.

Agree, I know a site i'm a member on that would not consider anyone under the age of 21 because a lot of the members were older and would not listen to a young 'un moderating them.

I think that age is irrelevant, like Fowler said, if they act in a responsible way and they take care with the job in hand then it doesn't matter how old they are.

Age isn't really a concern for me, for reasons that others have stated. They just have to do their job. 😛

If they are mature, responsible, hardworking and dedicated then age isn't really a factor when I go to hire a new moderator or anyone for that matter. Like Folwer said some 14 year olds can be more hardworking and mature then some 22 year olds.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it's better to hire younger people (provided that they're mature) because people who are younger tend to have more time to dedicate to the forum. Older people tend to have more responsibilities.

I wouldn't care if a staff member was 6, as long as the person was mature etc I wouldn't care.

The youngest I have is 11, I care about how good they are.

Your joking, how can you trust an 11 year old?

I surprised at how many would have young ones on their staff, ok they might have the time and be helpful but do you not find they lack experience?

Everyone has to start somewhere, and everyone can be taught.

I don't go on age (unless its my VIP adult Forum area) my youngest moderator is Ace to be honest and he is 15!

I think people to some degree take it into consideration even if they dont think they do. But like others have said i dont really, it all depends on how you come off to me, iam willing to give almost anyone a chance. Although a good rap sheet never hurts haha 🙂

I don't care about how old they are. I wouldn't hire an 8 year old but anyone from 13 would be hired.

On my forums, I don't honestly care. What I care about is the level of maturity and the knowledge.

Well, you can't really force the age out of someone on the Internet. If you do, it shows how immature you are, instead of them. I only consider age for time issues. If they are say 11-25, school and uni age, then there will be times where they obviously cannot be on. I wouldn't consider age as a factor for maturity etc., but obviously above 13 for COPPA laws.

I dont think I would ever employ someone under 16, to be honest I think all my moderators on both my forums are older than me (I'm 21) although on one forum there arent any members below 18 I dont think, and the other forum you have to be 16 or over to join.

Do you have any reasons?

Age is never a consideration for me. Either they can do the job or they can't, that and their motivation is all I consider.
