Android or Apple ?

How would you define the term 'beat' in this situation? More sales, more features or just being more known? I don't think Android phones will ever outsell Apple phones, purely because so many people have Apple phones and will most likely never switch from them.

Android has a good chance, I think. Yes loads of people buy iPhones, but Android can be used on more than just one phone! Also, Android phones can be purchased for under £100, so there better for uses on a budget, which given the economic state, will be more and more people. I think Android will eventually win.

People who are looking for a cheap phone or Tablet will pick Android because there is more cheaper phones for Android made by LG and other cheaper brands vs buying a more expensive Apple iPhone. There are also prepaid plans for Android, and none or very few prepaid iPhone plans.

But, I think people who want or is used to the iPhone and iPad will buy from Apple rather then switching to Android in most cases since it is a hassle sometimes.

It's absolutely impossible to pick which one is best. Because they are each a matter of opinion. I myself don't own and Android product and I can say that proudly. Like Zenrer said when you get used to something such as an iPhone it's going to be hard to step down to a lower-end cheaper Android phone. Mainly because you get used to things in life and when you try and change them things can go wrong.

But, I wouldn't count me as a valid opinion because I not only work as a store manager at an Apple store but secondly I own 17 Apple products.

I have an android 4G phone and I love it!! I just hate the crappy battery life smart phones have. They seriously need to improve on that technology.

Considering Android has reached 52% of the world market share, and 50% of the US market share, I think I can safely say that it has beaten it already.

Furthermore, if Apple are to stay in the game, they need to keep up to speed with the technology advancements. Android has been using 4G + LTE for almost a year now, the iPhone doesn't even have it yet, and I suspect Apple will finally incorporate it with their iPad 3 and iPhone 5.

Also, people who buy iPhones often just look at the branding, rather than the specifications as Android users do. People just look at the Apple logo, and think "I need that!"

I don't know the answer to the question, but I can tell you I switched for an iPhone to android and don't miss it one bit.

Android is already selling double what Apple sells globally.

This is relevant.

Neither will ever get "beat" and run out of business or something like that. Android I suppose will win the "race".

It would be cool if someone makes a phone which can run Android Apps and iOS Apps through Dual Boot, Emulation, or Virtual PC software like VirtualBox like for phones.

I think the hardware for more expensive Android phones are competitive with Apple iPhone 4/4S, but there are still a lot of Apps which are only available on iOS because developers make more money selling their Apps on iTunes then on Android market since most users of iPhone buy more Apps then Android users who mostly use free apps which are ad and donation supported.

Although I don't support it in any way, the BlackBerry Playbook can emulate Android apps. I think this feature is coming with Playbook OS 2.0.

Personally, I don't want to see quality Android apps being used on a crappy BlackBerry, but that's just me.

It could go either way. for me its apple. they have a more advanced operating systems and devices. BUT i think open source company/software will become more superia.

I think open source works better for utility based software like OpenOffice, FileZilla FTP client, VLC media player, etc and not as great for gaming software since most of the funnest and popular games are made by For-profit proprietary companies like EA, Rockstar, Rovio, Activision, THQ, and SquareEnix.

Free and open source games like Torcs I played are okay, but don't seem as good as paid alternatives like Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts Need For Speed, Call of Duty, or Grand Theft Auto.

Agreed.

Need for Speed and Grand Theft Auto are definitely worthwhile games.

It's all relative is it not, it boils down to preference and what each has to offer in regards to what you want.

Anyway, iOS and Android are both Unix-like systems. But Android wins on price, ultimately. And while I do not use a cell phone (yet alone a smartphone), I am interested in technology.

So anyway, Android is designed to be a bit faster than iOS is designed. So I think that Android is better.

But this topic is, to me, about whether Android or iOS will become dominant in the smartphone market in the long run. (Let's not forget Windows Phone.)

According to Wikipedia, Android/Open Handset Alliance/Google runs/sells about 50% of global smartphones, and Apple/iOS sells/runs about 25%. So yeah, I think Android will win, if only due to price.

Originality will always beat the imposers. I personally think Apple will be better at least until they run out of the last ideas Steve Jobs left them.

Apple sells millions of iPhones once they are released, and that's in only a few days. Plus I find it to be better and more people prefer it.

Plus as a personal view, if android needed to add a virus scanner to their market, I wouldn't be using that phone at all.
