I am considering purchasing an iMac 2009 but I have some concerns about the overheating problems with these machines. Anyone have one? And have you had a problem with this?

Unless your getting it for dirt cheap, then you should get a model that is more updated.

Are you buying it straight from Apple?

No. Cannot afford it through Apple....E-Bay....not exactly dirt cheap, about 1/2 the cost. Gotten kind of leery of this now since reading about the overheating problem...I know after 2012 they don't have this problem.

I sent a question into the seller asking them if they had ever had this problem with this machine. Most likely will not get a response........

You save roughly 15%-20%, though.

I know best buy has deals usually, but I am not sure how much of a deal it is.

Not much better really....just found out the newer ones do not come with a Cd/DvD drive built in....that blows!

Those are the thing of a past, but you can buy an USB Superdrive.

Why do you want an iMac? A Mac Mini may be another option.

Maybe...but I do not want anything that small if I were going to do that I just as well get a laptop........I prefer desktops because I spend more time on them....my biggest reason for wanting an iMac or Apple computer period is that I am getting tired of buying Windows Machines every four or five years.

You made the right choice in choosing Apple!

A mac mini is just a desktop, you can attach any monitor you want to them.

Or, you could get the Mac Pro when the new one os released, because the old one will drop down in price.

Just get a PC. 😛

Sick of PC's....tired of buying one every four or five years.
And yet you're buying an 09 iMac...

Getting a Mac is great, but you need to get one at least a bit more recent than that. If it's the price you're having trouble with (and it sounds like it is), then either get a new PC or keep what you have and save more to get a new iMac.

Glad you know what's best for me......thanks all for the suggestions....

A Mac Mini is good if you are looking for a Mac, but don't want to spend thousands of dollars.

The starting price for Mac Mini is $599 for the 500GB version with 4GB of RAM, Intel HD4000 graphics and Intel Core i5 dual core CPU, and the higher end model with a Core i7 Quadcore CPU, 1TB drive, 4GB RAM, Intel 4000 graphics is $799.

You need to buy your own monitor with HDMI video connections.

Mac Mini has USB 3.0, Firewire800 , Thunderbolt, SD card, wired networking, SD card slot, Speaker, and Audio-In ports.

The Mac Mini has an Intel Core i5 Dual Core and i7 Quad Core CPU option.

Mini come with 4GB of RAM, and if you need more you can upgrade to up to 16GB of RAM.

The video chip is a Intel HD 4000 which could play some older games, and newer games on low settings. The 4000 series is good enough for HD video playback.

The Storage on a Mac Mini is a 1TB fusion drive with a built-in SSD for faster hard drive read speeds.

The Mac Mini should be fast enough for a lot of your daily tasks except PC Gaming.

Get a Pc, You get more power for your money. if you look after it, it wont wear out as quick

Vader does not want a PC because he does not like viruses and malware,a not efficient operating system, and he does not want to buy a PC as often.

And Macs are far more powerful then Windows machines.

If you use common sense you can avoid viruses, or just get linux.

Pc's are better on the power to cost ratio.
