Are you more of an administrator or a moderator? If that question confuses you, let me ask you a more direct question: which do you prefer, managing staff and projects behind the scenes, or dealing with your members hands on?

Based on that, I'd say I'm more suited to administration. While I'm capable enough at dealing with members, it usually frustrates me. I'm much more suited to behind the scenes work, managing staff and projects. I'm a conceptualist, definitely. What I'm less suited at, is being on the ground, putting these things in place on a day to day basis.

Some people can play both roles perfectly well, and that's great. However I've found that over time people specialise at one role or another, so I'm curious: which do you prefer, and why?

Administrator, more of a team leader than a team player.

Holy low content replies, batman!

How many people here have had mod experience on large forums? If so, did it prove helpful to you?

I'm more of a moderator. I'm good at managing my members and any members I have managed in the past but I'm also good behind the scenes too as my record shows.

So you are really and Admin then 😉

I'm a bit of both if that makes sense. I have a tech-administrator who handles more behind the scenes stuff more than anything, such as installing mods and themes, which leaves me free to spend more time with the community and be more hands-on with my members. So I'm more an administrator and a moderator. I don't do too much behind-the-scenes stuff, as I'm not really that tech-savvy.

Administrator Only, thats why I never staff on other forums, and put my sites first.

to be honest, I am more of a member. While I do enjoy modding and adminning, I mostly enjoy posting around and meeting new people.

Same here. I enjoy innovating and creating stuff for the forum, like new skins, and proposing tweaks to the rules, or new game elements or new things like sub accounts, etc. I am always thinking of how to improve quality and activity. I have also come to like analysis, of forum stats and trends and trying different things to improve those things.

However, I like helping new members hands on and of course, my favourite thing to do on the forum is roleplay, and hang out with my buds on there. It's something I wish I had more time to do. I wish honestly I could just roleplay and make skins and innovate. So I'm a mix.

Designer. But I am more of an administrator to answer your question.

I use to be just a member, that had an orange name. Things changed though, as the forum got more active and demanding. I'm still involved, and hang out as much as I can; but 80% of my forum time is in the background 🙁

Noone will read this, but here's a pretty funny blog post a member of ours wrote depicting my position as admin, from when the forum first started, to today. http://www.brawldomain.com/index.php?topic=7557.0

I'm more of an administrator, with a very social side XD. I tend to my admin duties on my own forums. But I also jump into mod duties just because I enjoy them. And next to that I love to respond to new discussions. So I suppose I'm a mix of admin, mod and a member, just mashing it together on how I admin.

Ha, ha, the way the member described you as an administrator sort of reminds me of another administrator on another message board I frequented. He would log on, once in a while post, and then he was gone again. It's sort of an off and on phase with this one as well. So I have seen this happen with administrators before.

I'm both, I actually like to deal with members, as sad as it is to ban them sometimes.
I also like to run in the background where no one else can see. 😉
