Ask me anything (zappaDPJ)

Mixed feelings. I replaced a lot of vinyl with CDs and subsequently with remastered CDs. While I understand the desire to remaster old recordings there comes a point when owning 3 or 4 versions of the same album is a little over the top.

I've also found that sometimes the original vinyl version of an album actually sounds better.

I don't dwell on the past or look to the future, I've always lived for the moment. Who I might have been has no real relevance to who I am today. I hope that makes some sense!

Is your recording studio just for yourself to use or will you be renting out time or others to use it?

It's for both. I'll be using it to record my solo work and with my band but I'll also be renting it out.

What do you consider “Dad Music”?
Probably everything that I like although I guess it's moving into Grandad Music territory these days 😱 Here are a few of my favourites.

Do you have any band tour/concert posters?
I do. I recently had one permanently fixed/stuck to a wall in the control room of my new recording studio. I've had it rolled up in a tube since 1976. I've since found out it was worth a lot of money ($2,500) but probably not so much now it comes with a wall :joyful:

Where did Cotton-Eyed Joe actually come from and where did he go?

I've no idea where he came from but he took the song narrator's girl down to Tennessee.

I'm actually rather fond of The Chieftains' version which is a little more traditional and a song I've seen performed a number of times.

What are your thoughts about this performance?

From what I recall it was a rather iconic moment that got lost in time which is a shame. It certainly demonstrated the true level of musicianship within the band.

What book, podcast, or thinker has shaped your worldview?
Steven Hawking who taught me never to make assumptions.

Decades ago I was having a meal in Cambridge University Graduate Centre, watching a severely disable young man being spoon fed by his carer. I recall thinking what was the point, who would want to live like that. Clearly Steven Hawking did.

If your life had a theme song, what would it be?
Right now, given the state of the planet and its inhabitants, this song just about covers it for me and the majority :joyful:
