Heck, you don't do years of training before you get behind the wheel and go drive on the road.
You still are required to do a driving test before being allowed to drive independently. It's not like you can cheat on a written exam or whatnot in order to get a full license. (unless it's different in USA or a country other than Australia where you don't go through licensing stages)
Yeah, there's the driving test, but I personally think it's a joke. Seeing how some of the people who just got their license drive is proof of that. And in America (or at least Michigan?) you have to drive 50 hours with a parent/legal guardian, 10 at night, and complete another driver's ed course before you can take the test. Overall, you can take 2 years to get your license if you take your first segment of driver's ed as soon as you can (14 years, 8 months in MI), or you can get your license in about a month if you do everything after you're 16.

But I really don't think that's anything compared to the extensive training pilots go through. Aren't they supposed to get like 500 hours on a flight simulator or something like that? (Someone please correct me. I have no idea what I'm talking about!! )
A little different in Australia. It's 120 hours including 20 hours at night with a full license holder supervising, and the starting age is 16, so there is a substantial amount of safety awareness.

I think that makes more sense...and less strict requirements are probably why these terrible drivers end up on the road 😛 But honestly I'm sure plenty of kids around here put in effort to drive safely (the way they should drive all the time) while taking their road test, and then once they pass and get their license they go and drive like maniacs again.

I'm learning to drive just now and whenever my instructor tells me to do something I always remember seeing someone doing the complete opposite.
