I would think banning someone who has been a part of the community for a long period of time, or have made hundreds of posts, would seem unnecessary, I doubt valued member would spam a community that they frequent and like being a part of..

It may not happen often, but it can. Most of the time these members need banning for other things, like flame wars ect. I have yet to do it, but I know of people who have. You cant give in, or other members will think its ok todo, whatever it is.

Yeah, being senior members means they need to set the example. If they break the rules and you don't punish them then the junior members will see it as being OK because the seniors did it.

I've never had to ban any senior members anywhere, yet. But then, I usually prefer an infraction over a ban for all but the most severe infringements.

I joined *cough* freeforums.org *cough* and made 1000 posts in 3 weeks. If the posts are decent and not spam then I wouldn't ban them but if they're spamming the boards and being ignorant to other users, I'll ban them.

I banned my leading poster (non mod poster) because they started to be rude to other members, personally picking them apart from the crowd. I re-instated them at the end though as the members involved sorted it out together and get on well now.

It does seem awkward. But you have to do what you have to do ~neutral~

If someone is causing hell on your forum then it doesnt matter how long the person has been a member or how many posts they have, if they are constantly breaking your rules after receiving a fair share of reminders and warnings, then its obvious they are a trouble maker and they should be removed from the community to keep the peace.

I agree with him for the most part. Although I do think that a members number of posts and activty level should have some effect on how long of a ban, they should still get something. At very least send them a PM reminding them of the rules. If you allow one to go, others will follow.

I feel everyone should be treated equally. New members especially look up to those with high post / reputation counts, and if they're seen misbehaving or breaking the rules they should be disciplined just the same way as everyone else.

If admins want to treat the well established members differently, at least he / she should put it in the guidelines ~smile~

Please note that if you are a senior member of our community, you have the right to raise hell without repercussions.

Yeah, that's something I'd put in forum rules... ~rolleyes~ ~lol~

Just because someone has been part of the community for a long time and has made hundreds or even thousands of post does not entitle them to being ban proof. I know several people who have been around communities for a long time with thousands of post who have been banned. Most people who have a post count in the hundreds, that are banned, obviously spam posted for that post count. If you have done anything to become banned then you should be banned. It is basic math, you add up all the spam post and multiply it by the number of offenses against the user, and if it exceeds the legal foruming limit, they should be banned in the great forum of the Phpbb powered website.

Pretty much that's it. Though I have to admit that it does hurt your forum a lot. Losing a active member is like losing a big chunk of your forum, so I would only ban if there was no alternative. But like everyone else said, if the member is being unreasonable.... you have no choice!
