Best ad placement?

You probably shouldn't put AdSense on a brand new forum.

@Nuke: Don't want two sets of advertisements, just one.

@Shotgun: Staff are paid otherwise I wouldn't have Adsense at all.

Footer. That's usually the least annoying place for it and you'll see less of an impact on activity there, I'd think.

In my opinion it's best to have Ads from the beginning, instead of implementing them somewhere along the lines..

I'd agree with shotgun. However if needed, I would think footer and top under banner.

They usually get the most exposure.

Then just choose one of those two since I can't decide 😛

I agree with Cosmic on this one. I would say the footer as well.

I agree with everyone who has said to put the Ads in the footer. I would put them below the phpBB copyright text. Seems to me like a good place to stick some ads since you already said you have to.

Thanks for the advice everyone 🙂

I'll make a decision soon on where to put the ads.

If you were to place them in the footer, I wouldn't put them at the far bottom as they will get close to none exposure. Just above the navigation bar would be the best place.

Bottom would be best but if you put it on the bottom then you wont get much money, if you put it on top it wont look that good but you would get more money.

It would get much more exposure at the top of the forum but then you have to think on a members part and I would find it rather annoying looking at that every time I move from page to page. Is it going to be on every page or just the board index?

Why is that? Put them on a brand new site with no traffic, and you'll be turning away potential members and visitors off the bat. You definitely know what you're talking about.

Sbfc's case is fine though, because he has a reason.

Because once you've members they're used to the 'clean' look of your forums and simply of not having 'ads'. If you then decide to put "Ads" on your forum, members might get frustrated and you still face the problem off 'turning away potential members'.

What I did though, is just have Ads for Guests, Banned and Suspended Users. I also made a clear post for the Guests that once they sign up, all Ads are gone and also listed some other benefits of joining.

You'd be lucky to get the stage you're talking about if you have ads on from the start. Why would anybody be interested in becoming a member of a brand new forum, 0 posts, yet has ads all over it?
