For the people saying the other host... I did try them but I noticed my friends having a few slow issues.

Thats a tad harsh hes just promoting hes site, As he said everyone starts some where. With a reseller or VPS is don't matter that much.

Also Hawkhost down own their servers. They rent servers from SoftLayer if im correct. :great:

Yes they do, but they actually upgrade them and manage them themselves. Actually yes it does matter, to run a real hosting business you need at least a dedicated server, and to run a semi-successful host which will eventually fail you should run at least a VPS, and to run an absolutely horrible hosting company you should use a reseller

Exactly Nathan, that was my point.

Glad ive got a VPS then aint i

But tbf my friend has a 50GB Disk Space, 500GB Bandwidth reseller. And he runs hes hosting pretty much fine.

I believe hawkhost rents its servers from http://www.softlayer.com/

If you do a Traceroute lookup (http://www.dnsstuff.com/) on any hawkhost hosted site or hawkhost itself it will show softlayer's url's in its results.

According to the softlayer website, it has:
Softlayer Facilities
Dallas 60,000+ Servers
Seattle 10,000+ Servers
Washington 10,000+ Servers
Houston 25,000+ Servers

I'd like to take a walk through the Dallas facility. I bet its huge.

I bet if all those places burned down, half the internet would go down with it. 😛

Yea, because it is still the NOC. There has to be some way to find out who's the real hoster. They still manage their own servers and upgrade their own stuff.

If they have staff that live around dallas (Most likely if they are server techs) they would probably send them if a problem happens and they can just go in and work on it. Or a staff from softlayer if they buy admin hours or what ever softlayer calls them.

Also nathan, What if someone on a reseller went to a VPS, then when they had enough money went to a dedicated and then they went to buying more until they started buying racks at a data center? I'd say that's pretty good.
Also a VPS is like a dedicated, you just don't have the whole server to yourself.

My friend IS thinking of getting a dedicated server and he is getting the money for it
but for now a VPS will do fine

But im sure most businesses start off small and grow into something special!!!

We knew this some posts ago

But yes, running a hosting site you do need to have more control over the hosting to be able to offer and do things for client requests. On a reseller you are pretty much limited to what you can do and therefor have to contact a 2nd person for support.

Cut out the middle man and go with VPS. Unless you dont know what your doing or just lazy

JustHost.com are the best in my opinion, up time is constant and support from the live support is great.

If it should be locked then it would be better to report than just posting saying it should. The community team will take longer to find it if it isn't reported.

I'll close this topic now as the question has been answered and acted upon 🙂
