Like say you have a gaming forum and you keep yourself updated to lastest news and stuff..

Or if you write reviews of recent games...

Do you believe posting topics like that could increase traffic(even help SEO?)?

I think it would help, plus it keeps the forum looking active. Don't know about the SEOs though

Some people lurk for days to see if the forum has some activity before registering, having new content may push them as the adin seems to keep with the happenings.

So I think it would help,SEO wise, don't copy word by word, use quote if you didn't write it and make it of the hottest trends or lasting leyends. Or things like that. Just suggesting. I am half asleep.

Actually I have noticed that reviews written for the latest entertainment releases (such as film and games) typically seem to get a lot of response/traffic.

Yes they certainly do. It is a good idea if you can to use your own headings because google will see it as a new story/article rather than one they've already picked up elsewhere.

Like Tet said, guides.

Also, from my old text RPG that I had at what is now my forum, I get major traffic from people doing irrelevant searches.

o.o

While this is all true you do not want to fill your forum up with things just to get traffic if it means driving away from your vision. However, if it fits into your site topic definitely go for it.
Tutorials, downloads, and other useful information will definitely help. Hiding links to members only and utilizing hidden content tags will also help because someone who wants an answer or how-to-guide will have to sign up to see all of it.

Reviews are important for new games and updates as well, but also post some downloads to various mods, the game itself or some guides 😉. Tutorials do not hurt either

Good articles for your niche always help. Choose titles carefully, try to offer something. They're usually the most promoted thing (since the visitors consider them useful).

I know when I started making new topics it was getting my users to post, so it does help.

As an admin you should go in and add lots of different topics around so users have lots of choices. Even if you have thousands of posts, if you only have a fraction of that in topics eventually those are topics are going to expire in the sense that there is no more to write about in them.

Any original content will help your SEO, if it is a duplicate review or news that is too similar to those posted on another website, google will not index it.

Topics certainly do help, posting topics that encourage users to discuss and debate with you helps a lot in my experience and research.

These will certainly help out, especially with search engines. It will also keep your site active which is great for smaller communities just starting out.

YOu need to do some SEO for your forum. and post some unique content. That will bring you more traffic.

I think it would, no matter how small it is. For gaming there might already be another sites who provide news faster than you, but I think by posting it, you have more chance to show up at Google search or something when someone search the specific terms.

It's proven for me lol. I get over 100 visits daily from organic searches with key terms that are related to certain threads, etc.
