Because we got off topic in the capital punishment thread, I guess I'll make this one.

Rudeness and lack of manners for me are the one thing that get my goat and don't cost anything, kids today know that they can get away with bad behaviour or just don't fear the punishment or consequences of it. If I got into trouble at school I was worried what my mother would say and knew there would be trouble. I was too afraid to be so naughty as to need the cane or the plimsoll at school.
I don't advocate extreme punishment of course, but a slap on the backside never did me any harm. I'm not mentally scarred, I am grateful to my mother for that type of upbringing, I'm respectful and hopefully a decent human being and I have her to thank for that.
