I used my phone as pedometer until I had resistance at work for having my phone in my pocket during working hours instead of the locker, so I bought a smart watch. Now they have send memos about not wanting to see those either but until they tell me directly, to which I will sincerely explain that it is pretty much doctor's order.
6pm right now I am at 8227 steps. I usually aim for 10,000 but honestly tonight i don't think I'll go much higher. I am still feeling very tired from last week work shifts.
I'd say that it is between 8,000 - 12,000 depending on the day of the week. Some days I pass my goal easily without trying, some others I have to mindfully go for walks to keep myself active.
Interestingly the notion that taking 10,000 steps a day is optimal for your health is often criticized as unscientific and it's believed to have originated from a market campaign promoting pedometers in Japan.
I think the jury is still out on what is actually optimal.
My watch tracks them for me. My goal is set to 10k, and my average is about 3856 a month. Some days, particularly when I'm at work, I'll hit the 10k easily, but other days, it just depends on what I'm doing. I don't wear it when I'm at home for the day, but I do wear it if I go out to track those steps. I don't really pay attention to it overall though, but it is a fun little thing to track.
