How do you think the Covid-19 will affect the movie theater business? Do you think movie theaters will ever go back to normal? Why or why not? What do you think they'll change?

The local one to me is closing down for good. Been closed for months, high rent/lease. bound to happen.

Regal has announced they are considering shutting down their theaters in the US. James Bond being stalled helped spur this line of thinking as sort of a final straw. I’d say we will see a further decline tbh.

I think it's an awful shame what's happened to all of hospitality but particularly theatres who just can't realistically operate with such a slow number in (I believe 15 for social events here in the UK :/ )

Movie theaters have been on the decline for years. Netflix and the other ten thousand streaming options have caused that. And I'm sure the subscription model that MoviePass introduced (and then everyone copied in their own way) really diminished their earnings as well.

I'd say that COVID has been the last straw for a lot of these companies. There aren't any new movies being released that are really worth going to see, since film production has been on hold everywhere for so long. I'm sure the big guns will make it (AMC/Regal), but you can goodbye to any of those smaller cinemas. It really does suck to see Regal shutting down again. My girlfriend and I went to see Tenant at a Regal in Nashville a few weeks ago.

Shame seeing things how they are but at the same time, I can't really complain. The nearest theaters from me is a good 30mins drive then another 10mins out is a far bigger and nicer theater and yet that's 45mins drive away. Bad nice that they are not even open, they are only open on weekends, and at other times they are closed with almost 5000 job losses. Good nice and yet I'm shocked it's still going ahead that my local town, 20mins away they are building a 3 theater building on the sea road and will take two years or less to complete. So Good and the bad news.

Well, demolition of the old theater building that was closed 10 years ago that was built in the 1950s and new it comes.

Outdoor theaters are back to being the big thing now. I remember going to them when I was younger!

Yes movie theaters will back to normal after vaccine selling to people.

I've heard of this. My hubby said he use to go to them all the time when he was a kid. So much so that he didn't know what a movie theater was as a kid. He was so use to the drive-in. But people can social distance and watch a movie so it's smart.

Yes it's interesting you say the last straw. The reminded me of precisely what it is. You couldn't have said it better. A lot of people are streaming so much content that they don't go out to the theater anymore. They still had fairly decent business though, just not nearly as profitable but I can definitely see how the pandemic would effect it. I bet it's very frustrating for the owners of Regal and so forth. But other businesses I know have been effected to. One being for example I'm sure are theme parks and also sports stadiums.
