My intent is to create some game by the end of college. I am a freshman in highschool, so I have quite a while, but game creation takes a lot of preparation and a lot of work to complete.

I have ideas for a game, and MMORPG. I can draw concept art, make graphics, make a website and all for it. But I am thinking..should I use a Game Creator Engine or learn coding languages to make it?

Any ideas of Game creator engines?

EDIT: I wish to create an ONLINE game. MMORPG.

Anything 3D you know of?

I know of Maya Game Engine and CryEngine3. But Maya costs like 1000$ and CryEngine is only for Companies and Educational purposes.

EDIT: Is it ONLINE?

That link I gave you is for online game it's easy to set up, but maybe aim 2d first. 🙂

Yeah..well..

I know to download the Library files but which of:

Eclipse Stable
Eclipse Evolution 2.7

I said that.. -.-

I asked which of these 2 to download?
Eclipse Stable
Eclipse Evolution 2.7

Eh, am I missing something? I downloaded it just to try it out and it was not very user friendly at all and very awkward. It sort of felt like RPG maker vx but several times worse.

Did you have to code or something? :/ This is weird..Haven't downloaded it yet, but taking cosmic's word.

Not really. My main problem is that it doesn't really show the big picture very well. You edit maps while logged into the game as a normal user through some fairly minimalistic menus. There is no undo / redo that I can see, though there are many tiles they seem poorly organized, and it lacks the auto-formatting of RPG-maker VX which makes shadows automatically and makes the tiles fit each other automatically. It looks sort of like a work in progress to me, and it seems to need a lot of refining.

This think has been out for years, and I have been using it for years, there;s a lot of coding involved to make a good game with it but I assumed anyone with any skill would be coding a game not using the easy options this game engine has with it.

Also I found "RPG-maker" to be crap but this one is the best for 2D online Games.

Of course, a lot of coding's only to be expected, but I do think VX has a much better map editor design. I'm not saying it's a bad bit of software, but it lacks a lot of features which would make it more user friendly. an example would be having to input the coordinates on warping rather than selecting the space and map. Of course, I've only used the thing for about an hour so this is just my first impression.

Well, ok slow down. First thing you need to decide, how you want this to be "online". Do you mean so players can play it online? Is it downloadable or going to be web-based? What languages do you currently know? What are you willing to learn and how "big" do you want to make this game?

There are SO many questions you need to ask and discover before you can even start this. Also, note that this won't be free - especially since it's going to be an MMORPG. You will need to buy dedicated server space, which will cost you at least a couple hundred a month. As well as probably the engine.

I suggest you buy the Engine, since you don't have the man power, and I doubt the current knowledge, to build a full Gaming Engine. Once you answer those questions, than I can point you in what direction you want to go in regards with coding languages and steps.
