I thing we should have the death penalty for the very same reason as you. The people that should be executed are jeopardizing everyone else's lives all the time. It isn't fair that a person is left to deal with people like that. To execute that one person may be better for the whole than for the individual. You always have to look at a society as a whole, not as a group of individuals. When you start individualizing everyone, you begin to lose sight of when could be beneficial to everyone. Life is about survival. Not of one, but of all.
I agree that it would suck if someone was lost for a mistake, but not everyone can be lost from mistakes (obviously) so the odds are strong that it would get more bad guys than innocents.
Well I'm not saying it should be the decreed answer for everything.
It could solve some of our major problems. Life is a gift and a responsibility and not everyone can take the responsibility even though we are all given the gift.
Considering here in the UK a man has just been released for spending 27 YEARS in jail for a murder he did NOT commit I don't see how anyone could say the death penalty should be used.
If there is a mistake and someone is sentanced for death you can't just say 'Oops, sorry!' which is why it is pretty useless in the US as people spend 20+ years awaitng to be executed with the appeals process and everything. It's easier just to keep people locked up securely.
Besides, surely stooping to a murderer's level makes you as bad as them? Two wrongs dont make a right and all that.
Furthermore the death penalty assumes nothing can be done in the future which may be true for some people but for people who have spent 30+ years in prison since they were 20 they may a very different person at the age of 50.
You could hardly call it Government Murder if you ask the public. I'm not saying it should be done through a system that we may have had previously. A possible reform could also be an idea worth considering upon return of the penalty.
You can see the point of the death penalty though, right? What can we do about people that are just so destroyed inside that they won't give a hoot for the well-being of their society?
When we have a better alternative, the world will be well on it's way to a better life.
No.
The death penalty is inefficient and ridiculous. It's killed innocents before, and it will continue to. The best way to handle a mass murderer is to make him spend his life in jail calling his cellmate Daddy after lockdown.
I used to think the death penalty was okay, but now I'm turning the other way.
I mean, you can NEVER be one hundred percent sure that a person actually committed a crime, even if there are eye witnesses. Eye witness accounts can be inaccurate.
What we need to focus on is making jail less of a vacation resort. If we made jail what it should be (six by six cell, bare minimum for food, etc.), I'm sure people would be less apt to commit crimes.
What I stand by is that if some person kills another person's family member, then one of the family members should hurry up and take action by killing the murderer before he gets locked up in prison.
Survival of the fittest. 😀
Anyway, it jsut depends on the matter of what the suspect has done. If he killed like 48 people while walking in Wal-Mart, then of course he should die.
