E.g. Gosora. It's also in Discourse (I think) and NodeBB.

It can be useful for keeping up with sites without having to walk through 20 forums all the time to see if anyone's pinged me. I dunno if XenForo has it (maybe a plugin?), probably.

Ah, interesting. Just curious, might be a nice optional thing on here at-least, but might be tricky if they're not supported or GDPR compliant.

One possible good use of it for forums in general is probably so that admins / mods can be quickly alerted when an incident happens, plus the usual convenience.

Like all things, desktop notifications holds people's information or at least saves it. So it does come under GDPR compliant. Yet again GDPR might chnage.

I noised that I used to get allot of desktop notifications on my site but since GDPR came it has stopped

Desktop notifications are opt-in. The browser explicitly asks for consent.
And then, you tap into the browser API to see permission has been granted.

The user is also capable of withdrawing consent.

I'm aware of it, Just that it's already set in the Chrome permissions and not showing unless f I'm missing an setting on the site side. Yet again IPB is the same

As I said in your other thread...
The other thread was to propose adding it here, as I didn't know exactly what goes into that, this one is more to discuss the feature in general, slightly different but perhaps slightly confusing.

So, it just has a little setting in the accounts thing or something? And it pops right on?

I knew that. 😉

Log in, post, wait for a user to respond to you on XF2, and it pops right in. Either that, or new posts for threads you watched.
