I prefer my laptop purely for the convenience but if I wasn't needing the ability to travel with it I'd definitely get a desktop.

Better specs for less $$

Desktop all the way as I'm a PC Gamer and desktops generally have better specifications.

I use a desktop, I get so much more power and reliability. It's like owning a truck vs a smart car

Go with a Desktop if you can go for periods of time without a computer and want more power, but go with a laptop if your always on the go and need a computer for work and personal uses.

Had no choice go without at the time, Had little or no money.

I prefer Laptop because they are portable, fast, easy to use, only one cord instead of 5 or 7 (charger cord)

Will I an using A laptop while writing this thread with an external monitor, I can't tell the difference between A laptop or desktop in power size.

I have noticed that laptops these days now have the same processors desktop have. I know A desktop that has an i5 Core while my has a i3. There are some laptops that can run the i5 chip.

There are some laptops that run an i7.

Here's a project - Try to install a Xeon into a Laptop.

From what I have looked up Xeon is only for desktops, Haven't found anything for laptop hardware.

Xeon is Server grade - Something that, given the money, I would have on my PC in a heartbeat.

Is it possible to change A machines processor? I want to change from i3 to i5 but not if its risky.

and yes there is a i5 version the laptop.

I just went and bought a Apple MacBook Pro 15" with Retina display, cost me a little over $3,000 AUD but well worth it..

A bit pricy considering a windows laptop with similar specs would've been around $500 cheaper, however for what I require it for, the MacBook is the best system, plus everything just works out of the box..

However as you've already got a tablet, I would buy a desktop.. Better yet, I'd personally build my own, go to umart.com.au, they've got fantastic parts for fantastic prices..

And there's one almost everywhere depending on where you live.. QLD, NSW and VIC are covered..

Good luck!

I'm using my laptop as A desktop its connected to the monitor and instead of using the WiFi I am using Ethernet since Ethernet sends data more secure. If I ever need to take it any I can easily disconnect it and use the touch screen. (obviously with the mouse & keyboard)

Ethernet is no more secure than wifi. I can still hack into your router and get your computer information. It's not terribly difficult.

Please don't post things that aren't true.

@Spudster: Nice but remove the battery, charging It while taking power out can damage/shorten its like.
