I am currently going on a diet to get a little more fit for baseball season in the spring, I'm going to give up all the foods I eat that I don't need to, and hopefully take some weight off. I am giving up Pop(Mountain Dew), Pop Tartz, Bagel Bites, Chocolate Milk, and everything.

Have you ever dieted/are you dieting?
Did the diet work?

Never really had to, but I think it comes down to what you drink more than what you eat. If you are constantly drinking water you are less hungry and not putting in all the sugars and calories of soda 🙂

Don't go on a diet. They don't work. You have to actually permanently change your eating habits if you want to lose weight and stay that way.

What you have decided on giving up is a good start. But remember, there's nothing wrong with having a soda or a bagel bite or chocolate milk once in a while. When I was a lot younger (7th grade) I had very poor eating/exercise habits. I made changes and they were for the best. I drink around 5 or 6 bottles of water per day, I don't drink soda at all, when I'm out a restaurant, I have an iced tea, key word an iced tea, not 3 or 4. Just make healthy changes. There is no point to going on a diet at all. They just don't work. You'll get fit and then you'll say "k, diet over" and then you'll gain the weight back within a few weeks since you'd be returning to your old habits.

Ya you don't have to give up any of those stuff. Just slowly make changes that you will be able to stick to.

And speaking of baseball, I could tell you what to work on.

Unfortunately, I can't tell what kind of hitter (or pitcher) you are so I can't give you the best info. Nonetheless, try to follow. I play baseball too and my season starts in 6 months.

Work on your upper body to get more power in your swings. Bench pressing is always a great excerise to do.

Forearm workouts are pretty much useless so don't work that out too much. Just the biceps, triceps and your shoulders.

You can pretty much google some excersises as well. Oh and can you tell me what position your playing?

Well, I agree that we have to give more attention to our eating habits instead of starving away but if your weight is not according to your BMI you should be working out on your eating habits and the right exercise regimen. With the right exercise regimen the unwanted fats tend to shed off faster but do not make yourself sore. Go steady, choose fruits and vegetables, high fiber foods, cut down on all junk foods, drink plenty of water but not excess, exercise and also adapt a healthy lifestyle.

I never diet, I just eat and drink smart, and its worked flawlessly. 🙂

That is a diet. The stuff you put in your mouth is considered a diet (even if it's almost all junk).

If you're going to stay in shape (or even if you want to lose weight), you must exercise so that you are in shape. If you just think you can lose weight by dieting, you're more likely to lose muscle than fat. Besides, even if you do lose weight, you'll still be a slouch. Try doing a 5k race without training and just dieting.

However, just as long as you eat your veggies, don't eat junk (if you want to be more specific, avoid all foods that have genetically-modified corn in it), and if you want to go even further, eat local/organic. If you were from Alabama (just as an example), why the hell should you be getting Apples from Washington State, Garlic from China, or Lettuce (or whatever) from Mexico? Be sure you know where your food comes from, because not everyone does (if you were in fact from Alabama, "Made in USA" could always mean places like California).

I have a tendency to stay fit, even with how much I eat/drink. If you exercise, you'll be fine. At least, that works for me. 🙂

I stay healthy somehow. I eat well except for a few times a month where I eat like a two ton horse.

I dislike the word diet because what people need to do is change their lifestyle. Eating less overall, and eating less processed foods, and sticking to complex carbs instead of simple sugars and of course drinking your water and getting exercise. If you like green tea that may help too speed your metabolism a little anyway! So simple yet so hard.

Exactly, same here, and that's fine. Just don't do it every day.

I want to go on a diet...a weight gain diet. I'm underweight, unappealingly so, and I want to change that.

I just started eating breakfast a couple of months ago, and it's usually a bowl of cereal, some toast, or a piece of fruit. Lunch usually consists of a sandwich and something on the side. I usually snack all throughout the afternoon, whether it be on junk food, fruit, or whatever is in my cabinets, really. Then for dinner I'll eat something a little more substantial, like a steak, hamburger, bacon and eggs, etc.

I'm a college student, and a new one at that, so my diet hasn't had much variation in the last few months. I've been on the skinny side all of my life, though.

I don't usually call them 'diets' but occasionally I'll become a health food junkie. Like, I love my potato chips and processed foods as much as the next person, but usually when I start exercising a lot I start eating more fruits and organic stuff. Then after a while I go back to eating my junk food...

On school days I usually have breakfast, eat snack foods throughout the day, and then come home for dinner. I'm not liking the whole snack foods part, so I'm gonna stop buying those and kind of force myself to take fruits as my snacks.

As others have said, weight is no indication of health. I'm at a healthy weight according to BMI, and I can't climb stairs.

I hate to disagree but weight is an indication of health. While there are many cases like yours where someone can be at a good BMI but still have problems that heavier people go through, that hardly means that weight is "no indication" of health whatsoever.

I joined a gym in August and Ive lost about 20 pounds. I haven't changed my diet but I should. I bet I'd get in better shape a lot quicker.

If I did change my diet, I would not call it a "being on a diet" because I dont want to have that state of mind.
