Do Post Exchangers Ever Stick Around?

The post exchangers will remain active on the forum when both the parties are actively involved in the exchange. Exchanges are usually sustained by the degree of interaction they have.

Have you ever done a post exchange with someone and had that person stay around as an actual member? Have you done this yourself?
Typically, if I do post exchanges with my admin forum, I can usually convert the exchanger into a regular member. They get to request other exchanges on it, promote their forum on the directory/board for promotion and their signature link gets shown to guests.

It's a win-win for them to stay. 🙂

But it probably wouldn't be the same on my hiking or biking forum because unless they really get into those topics, they'd likely be done after the exchange is complete.

From my experience, they don't. They'd only come back if prompted to fill out another exchange...

Not usually. Not unless you're doing an active for active exchange.

I take breaks from post exchanges, and only use them when my forum needs a boost. Now that I have an active community.

For me it's not "depends on the type of forum", I think it's better for starting up forums; but I don't think it's right for established forums. As had been said it is a setup at the end of the day and I'd rather have people join and post because they want to and are interested in the forum's subject, rather than simply for and agreement - *for established forums.

Way back when, some of my best users were those who originally joined just to complete a post exchange. It won't happen often, but when it does, it's magnificent.

It was a great way to bring up a forum on activity. It was later commercialised by websites such as PostLoop.

I think more such websites are coming up also.

No, I wouldn't expect them to, though. It's all just business. Anyway, if I wanted someone long-term, then I would probably have to pay for some yearly thing.

If you're expecting post exchangers to stick around, you have unrealistic expectations. It's no different than paid posting, as there is a temporary incentive that has brought this person to your forum. The goal is that natural forum browsers will see the activity and jump in. Then maybe you slowly pull away from post exchanging.

Post exchange means you post in someone's forum and they do favours by posting on yours. This will happen only when you are engaged in post exchange or do regular exchange

Yes, clearly.

But sadly IMO, a lot of times the posts are generic or just short 1 or 2 sentences and obviously are being made ONLY because of the exchange. I'd much rather have people be excited and genuinely interested in my forum and post because they want to, not simply so long as I post on their forum.

Just my thoughts...

I like ones like "Good job bro!", "Keep up the good work!", "Me too!", "I respectfully disagree!". 😀
