With the release of the iPhone 16 recently it got me thinking, do you find yourself always wanting the latest tech or rushing out to buy it as soon as it goes on sale?
When I was younger I used to but as I get older I don’t have that same desire to always have the newest and latest tech in my hands or on my desk.
I've never really been invested in having the latest tech. Would it be nice to have? Sure, absolutely, but what I have generally works well, so I just use what I've got till it's no longer meeting my needs, and then I look at upgrading. I bought the Pixel 7 a couple years ago when it was still the newest model, and now 2 years later, they're already on the Pixel 9. Before that, I had the Pixel 3a that I'd bought in 2019 and kept that for almost 3 years before I upgraded, and I only did that because the battery was reaching a point where it wasn't staying charged a whole day and I'd (accidentally) cracked the screen. No plans to upgrade again anytime soon either since my phone is still working just fine for me. Technology is expensive, but I feel like I've never had a reason to upgrade immediately when something new comes out.
I've still used my phone since 5 years ago and since then they have released three generations 😛 Each time they release a new generation they show off the specs, but it's not always a huge deal to what you have now or the last generation. Faster CPU, faster ram, Cool 😉 Who cares if you aren't going to get the full benefits XD
So many people have older tech and have not used the full benefits that there phone has to offer 😛
A good upgrade is when you skip generations then you see the BIG difference.
I usually buy the latest tech at the pricey end subject to stability but then I'll run it until it's no longer practical i.e. I generally skip at least three generations of iPhone and my PCs tend to last ten years or longer.
I wait a little bit before upgrading my game consoles, but as for everything else I'm not in much of a hurry to upgrade. If I know my favorite games will only have versions on a newer console that's when I will get a new one. Though lately games have been getting released on last gen's consoles along with current gen ones but a lot of them just play better on newer ones.
I still have my PS4 and opted not to get a PS5 when they launched. My PS4 is on its last legs now so I’ll either need to get a PS5 or switch to entirely PC gaming instead.
I have an iPhone 11, so I'm way behind in the latest tech scene. It doesn't bother me, however. As long as my smartphone works properly and I have access to all the apps I love.
I'm way too frugal to buy the latest tech stuff! It's better to invest money into your future instead of wasting it on something that isn't really needed at the moment. Do you NEED the latest tech is the question you should be asking yourself? If you're broke, but have the latest tech, then your priorities are out of sorts.
For me, having the latest tech or gadgets is not necessary. As long as my current one is still working and serving me just fine, there's no need for me to upgrade to the latest.
I've thought about getting the latest phone but I'm okay with my other stuff being what they are. They are still in good working order so I don't see a need to change them.
Not really. I think the space it takes up has to justify a use case. I can't get every new game console unless I find a place for an old one. I only really bought a decent laptop because I plan on making a game with it. And I do want a NAS server, but other than that, I prefer old tech that uses the internet.
It's not necessary for me, until the devices I own currently work well. Technology is very expensive, so no need to spend until my devices fit my needs.
Not really. My Mac Pro was 11 years old when I switch to a 2013 Mac Mini. I just upgraded that to 1 2025 Mac Mini m.4. Will have it for at least 10 years. My iPad is gen 3 and Macbook Air is 2012. Only thing I keep up to date is the ipHone. It gets upgraded every 2 years.
