When login in here do you look for new forums to join or is your primary task just to promote your own forum and that is it.

Personally I have seen some awesome new forums to join when browsing some of the forums posted up here.

I do. I can't say I look at every forum or anything like that. I'm looking for something different in a forum; something with driven individuals on staff, a reasonable attempt to be around for a long period of time, and something that makes a solid attempt not to be a knock-off of another forum.

Well I sure hope that once it is ready I might be able to offer you something like this

I do, but haven't seen any interesting ones in the past 3 or 4 years.

I look for content-creation and tech forums, mostly.

Not now, because there isn't really a lot of interesting forums to join. Most of the ones I loved have passed away and gone. I'd do want to look but I presume the effort is going to be wasted unfortunately.

Neither, I'm just here because I heard this place also had a good community attached to it. So I'm here to chat mainly.

I have joined a couple forums I've seen listed on this site though. I do wish more active forums would advertise here though. It's mostly forums with barely any members or activity. Zzz

The latest forums, I have joined is due to FP. So now, FP is probably the only decent way to look for forums.

I join allot just to deal with post exchanges and there aren't much that I like other then my own 😛 The websites that are good tend to be the once that I'm active on yet again I visit IPS and mostly I have no choice. Do I like FP, Yeah other then it's not my favorite and not the best on my list since there are some bad facts about the site that it has been mention by others.

I also seen allot of cool websites but doesn't been I will join

My forum's been active for quite a few years, but never got anything out of advertising here, so I just don't do it anymore (outside of my signature of course). The people that frequent FP aren't really the types you want to advertise to, because a vast majority of them are here to help further their own site, rather than find one to join.

I get that. I remember when I had a site, pretty much all I cared about was recruiting people (when posting on other sites). I felt handcuffed to my forum when I was away from it. I would reply to topics that I wasn't even interested in and engage people I'd normally ignore just out of hope that they'd see my signature & join my forum. I was a shameless advertiser and would try anything (within reason) to get people over to my forum. I felt disingenuous and I wasn't enjoying my time online even though my shameless advertising tactics were effective. I never had a problem cultivating a semi-active community but after so many years, the work that I had to put in to keep it going and keep new people coming in didn't seem worth it.

Nowadays I am much happier just being a regular member with nothing to promote. There's no ulterior motives behind my activity on any forum. If I'm there, it's because I want to be there. If I stick around, it's because I'm enjoying my time there. #Liberated

Sometimes i have a look through the directory and if a board looks okay, ill join it

Looking at the way things are today it would seem that it has become very hard to start a new forum unless you have a group of people that are prepared too put a lot of work into it at the start of the forum. Social media seems to be slowly killing off the overall idea of what forums are about.

Agree with you there, most now have FB groups that seem to be growing day by day

It really doesn't help that most new forums act as if their only goal is to overextend themselves, very efficiently damaging both their discussion focus and density. The best way to kill your forum is to make it look dead by spreading everything out.

I used to be a packager For a guy named Panda on a place called ForumHour, anyway he claimed to have started FP as well and then the ownership was handed down twice due too their busy lives. But back then I'd visit all sort of websites fulfilling packages, some that caught my eye I stayed and just continued posting after the package was done, because thats one of the benefits of being a packager is that you get to be a online explorer. I was known by a different allias back then.

ForumHour (before its relaunch) had a fantastic concept. It's a shame it's not still around, because I think it was the most impressive I found on FP.

Used to but no point anymore. They just close down the next day when the failing admin complains why 50,000 people haven't joined their disgrace of repetitive content from every other forum on the planet.

So I suppose then the next question would be why even bother trying to start a new forum then, is it better just to accept the fact the days of forums are long gone and move over to social media.

This make me wonder if I even need to spend any more effort on my current project that has not even opened yet.

I have cycles of my interest in forums. I'm an owner of one and I've been working on it lately. Right now I have no interest in really joining others because I know with my time, I'm not able to give it what it needs if I split my time up.

I don't see forums as obsolete unless their focus is just on social engagement. Support and content-creation forums are still quite relevent.
