This is probably a natural consequence of the fact that one software can't possibly cater to all situations, but just about every forum software these days, just seems to generally suck.
No matter what they do, they just seem to... Fall flat. And even when it's "good enough", it's usually fairly rigid and doesn't do quite what you want. This isn't even adding the fact that many software have largely remained the same for four years or so with just incremental improvements to tide people over.
Maybe, the only real way to go these days is custom? But, that takes a fair bit of manpower and expertise. Curious thing, indeed.
