Hes right but i think the credit crunch (downturn/Recession) would be worse without online shopping.

You might as well face the music. Without the Internet, the world would slowly collapse. Schools, the workplace, etc, depend on it. What would happen if it was gone?

The reasons are pretty stupid. Just get rid of THOSE things only.

I updated the thread with a poll so everyone could vote..😛 I forgot where I posted this thread.. took me this long to find it.

I think he means porn, spam, fraud and scams which are the reason UN want to end the Internet.

Porn isn't an Internet only thing, and it's not illegal or causing harm :/

Spam, fraud, and scams are also non-online only things. Sure the Internet has increased them but they would have gone up anyway due to the money hardship.

Porn is maybe not illegal but it should be, 7-10 year olds..getting on the internet seeing that junk and they sould'nt.

I don't think the end of the Internet is anytime soon. If the UN wants to shut down the Internet because of porn, spam, fraud and scams why don't they just delete those websites or make it where people can't get on any those sites?
Quick point: there a 40 billion websites, that is next to impossible

True, if it was the media would be running wild with this. It will also take more than a year to delete every file off every server in the whole world.

Also, the internet was developed BY THE GOVERNMENT FOR THE GOVERNMENT. They never really wanted civics to have access.

The bottom line is, it wont be 🙂 It is one of the resources every government in the world relies on just to manage every day.

You will never be able to tell another human what to do with their body, get over it. If someone wants to do something they will, that's the reason we have murders, bank robbers, and even heroes. The free will that each of us have within, we will do as we please no matter what government says. Think about it, when America was formed they were rebels, breaking the law. The simple fact is, if your 7 year old is viewing porn then you as a parent better do something about it, OR let them grow up how I think is correct by letting them mature at their OWN pace. I'm not going to play god and tell my kid he can't view porn, after all it is just what we all are, and before clothes became mainstream no one really cared (clothes were invented to protect, not hide).

Honestly, I can't see any smart person falling for that.

No, I think the internet will not end. It is too important for daily life since a lot of people use it to learn about stuff, buy stuff, pay bills, and talk to others.

Well, the government like some said in this thread..they could take down the internet but it would..take along time other than that the global problems happening now, if they took out the internet it would cause alot of panic. 😛

No... they can't. It is impossible to take out a system such as the Internet. The only real threat is that Google will get hacked and all their bots will stop following the robots.txt and make a few million requests per minute. That would kill just about every connection globally >_>

There is no off switch. If the USA can't manage to control it's border do you really think it could control millions of pissed off teenagers, the "future voters"? Highly doubtful, specially when a few key ones have access to their own communication servers and could take down their armed forces. At any given second one of these people could fire a nuke at the white house, let's just say I know for a fact that the USA still have a few active ones that are ready to be launched on command, and that the command line has been hacked.

I think the government in most Demacratic countries would not want to take down the internet since Government leaders like Obama are on Twitter, and Facebook. A lot of political parties also use it as a way to get more people to vote.

Plus, the government will lose a lot of votes if they made accessing the net illegal.

I think that we can all say that the Internet is going to stay up until something big, like a terrorist attack, happens. But until then, I don't really think we should worry.

If we end up getting no internet, we're all screwed. It will not happen anyway, and won't become law either.

And to be honest, shutting down the entire internet just because there's lots of bad things going on in it is downright stupid. You can get these problems sorted out you know. No need to cut off millions of connections because of that.

Hate to put a damper on this debate, buuuuut. Just to make sure that everyone has absolutely no belief in this crap.

#10. UN Votes To Shut Down The Internet (1 April 2005)
Habitable Zone posted an announce that the UN had voted to shut down the internet:

“In special session, the United Nations General Assembly voted 165 to 6 with one abstention to shut down the Internet. The reason given was that the rapid and uncontrolled flow of information was destabilizing the governments of many of the member states. Furthermore, the Internet has increasingly become a vehicle for fraud and scams. Finally, the Internet produced the infamous “DOT COM” debacle which had disastrous repercussions for the World economy… The six countries that voted against the shutdown were Nigeria and five Caribbean banking havens. The Nigerian representative stormed out after the vote saying that the shutdown would destroy his country’s largest source of income.”

 Trust me, no one in government would be as stupid to even think of something like this, let alone vote for it. All of your reasoning is something that they woulda thought of beforehand.

But to continue with the debate....

Impossibility at it's finest...

Even if it had been voted, there is literally no possible way to destroy the internet without destroying the world first.
