English to American English

I will probably get flamed for this but, American has improved the english language. Good job america! -happy-

Here's a good one I know of... while these two words are spelt the same in British and American English, they're pronounced differently to each other.

First of all there's "data". The British say "DE-ta" and the Americans say it as "DAH-ta". Same for "status" as British say "STE-tus" and American's say "STAH-tus".

Odd, huh?

Here's another one... and it's a games console. The Sega MegaDrive is called the "Genesis" by Americans and "MegaDrive" to Britons and other Europeans. The funny thing is, I called it the Genesis albeit I'm obviously not American.

The Genesis and MegaDrive are the same thing after all.

Trousers - Pants
Play Time/Break Time - Recess
Motorway - Freeway
Skip - Dumpster

Just googled them so im not sure if theyre correct these days.

No, because Van1lla is right. I don't mean to sound racist and there are no hard feelings towards anyone, but the Americans have in no way helped improve the English language. Rather, you've taken our words, spelled them differently and created one or two new ones that we don't use.

At the end of the day Travis, the "English" language will always be known as the English language because of who made it, and where it developed. ~smile~

Just because the 1st 4 letters in English are the same as England doesn't mean that they are correct. Americans took the language, made some improvements to it and made it more efficient and effective. I mean why does a useless 'u' need to be in all those words? You don't even pronounce it.

Its not more efficient or effective, its wrong.

It does when we invented it.
