The whole point of fake news is to derail the public agenda. Right now, there's so much fake news surrounding Donald Trump, that you can't even tell which news articles is trustworthy. I see it every day right now from my own family, sharing clickbait articles to make a headline more exciting, and more interesting, than the actual journalism they think they're journaling. If that makes sense... The reality is, the more people share news, and that's a fake article, more people are likely to perceive that story as real, than what the article actually says. Every time you share something, the first thing people look at is the headline, and they rush to judgement on the headline. So, if your family member is sharing an article saying that Donald Trump is racist, semantic, and sexist, then he'll be perceived as such. They don't even need to click the article, just share and comment about how much they "hate" Trump. That's the reality right now.
I'm using Donald Trump as an example, because that's the hot topic on Facebook, Twitter, and instagram nowadays.
