There, I said it. Facebook groups aren't so awful.

One reason I say that is because I might possibly have to do a certain diet for a body scan and then radiation after if my thyroid cancer returned. I found a Facebook group that is devoted to the Low Iodine Diet and I have to say, I'm impressed with how they've run it. It's the closest that a group has come to living up to the standards of forum life.

They have an onboarding with videos to watch and even a mini quiz for newbies before they make posts. Even though people don't always comply, the admins are on top of them asap. There are admins covering a variety of different countries to help with questions on foods in their areas.

Are there any Facebook groups that you're impressed with and even though you still are a fan of forums, at least there are a few groups that are tolerable?

Glad you found a decent group. But it’s likely in the 1%. Rest of the groups are just toxic.

I find Facebook ridiculously hard to follow. A number of forums I used to own went to Facebook groups and although I joined some of the groups I've never left any content there. I also had to join a group when I got locked out of a forum.

So now I have this list of content on my Facebook page and I have no idea which group it's coming from or how to post content in a particular group. I'm probably just being lazy but the UI seems extremely counter intuitive to me.

I also had something occur which really rattled my cage. I viewed someone's business related Facebook page by accident and received a notification/message from the page owner asking if they could be of any help. How does that work?

Back on topic, I think Facebook groups are like any other forms of social media. If you dig far enough in you may well find some nuggets of gold.

The message from the business page is actually an option for businesses so that they appear as if they're ready to work for you. It's like the Chat you see on business pages for support.

I don’t do a great job participating, but I am in a ton of different Facebook groups. I’ve made a number of connections with individuals on them, especially a couple sports ones I’m on in particular. I don’t mind it, but forums will always be my preference.

Thanks, I didn't know that. You've put my mind at rest 🙂

I've tried a lot of different Facebook groups, haven't found any decent ones, and none that can substitute for a forum, but I'm glad you managed to find one of the good ones @Katrina 🙂

I mostly just lurk in Facebook groups. A lot of them are animal ones that I'm in because I can learn from them and utilize the information I learn in the groups when talking to customers at work, but they can be incredibly toxic. A whole post can be derailed by someone asking a simple question about their pet because they see someone has an improper set up in the picture the poster added in. A lot of it tends to stem from those who just don't want to hear the constructive criticism, and the admins thankfully tend to jump in quickly, but it gets pretty toxic pretty quickly until admins are able to jump in and shut it down.

I don't really use Facebook that much anyways to begin with, so actually participating in the groups has never been something to really interest me.

I hate Facebook Groups. I think I see something I care about like hitting up people to play a game (Pokemon Scarlet for example). Some people are just toxic when they hit up a private chat when they lose. Makes me hate to even be on the planet with someone who can't even build a competitive team more than once because next they want it on Smogon's Showdown battle simulator. There are a lot of dead groups, and there are a lot of groups with minimal postings but a lot of private chats and no activity in moderation you ever hear about.

I am glad you found a Facebook group that can help you. I joined some freelancing groups before. I decided to deactivate my Facebook account because I want to protect my mental health. LOL

I don't blame you in the least, Facebook has a lot of toxic people on it!
