One way to know where at least some of your hits are coming from is to install a web counter! I use Statcounter.com on mine. They are GREAT for tracking where your hits come in and how many you get. And they're free! They let you track whether your overall, repeat and unique hits are rising, falling or remaining more or less the same over time, what patterns there are in them and ohhh it's just a lot of fun if you love numbers. XD In addition to the very valuable info.

Stat Counter eh? Problem is, is that some of them also count the hits of the countless bots that come in, but I will see about adding some useful and accurate info on them.
