We are currently looking into a few ways in order to improve Forum Promotion in order to make it better for everybody. One of our ideas is to change the forum software we are running.

We would like to first of see if you think we should convert the forum to another software and if you do to see what software you think would be best. Everything will be converted so nothing will be lost (posts, accounts ect)

Nothing is decided yet so we do need some community opinions as to whether we should look into this further and what software you prefer.

Interesting links -
VB - http://www.vbulletin.com/
IPB - http://www.invisionpower.com/community/board/

If you have any questions feel free to post below...

I thought you said phpBB3 was better than vBulletin and you didn`t like vB?

Oh I will say, if you did go to vB, all users will need to reset their password afterwords.

Regards Jason 🙂

This isn't what i or what the rest of the staff members want... It is what is best for the whole community. -😉-

I don't really like vb but if everybody thinks it is better then we will have it.

Stick with phpBB3!!

I think it would bother quite a lot of users, 1 of those being me, if you changing forum software.

phpBB3 is fine and i prefer it. So, i say you should stick with phpBB3!

VB is crap!

Victim, another person who just disses a product they haven`t even tried. You can`t just say vB is crap, what are your reasons for it being crap?

I agree with you there Fowler mate, you go with majority of the votes. 🙂

Regards Jason 🙂

Relax... He might have tried the demo or is judging it by the look and feel from a users point of view (which you lot will be doing -😉- -lol- )

You can easily say the same for vB.

The looks are crap, it`s not exactly a good enough reason. You can get a template from vB.org, or even better, make your own, your just change the CSS colours.

Regards Jason 🙂

I have used it on the users end and i thought it was good to use, high matinance but good. Thats why i voted for VB.

As the post says nothing has been decided yet we need some community opinions. We are bound to have people who don't like VB or phpbb. If you want to discuss which is the best forum software do it in the correct forum.

I was just stating! As the topic says, what should be the forum software.

Vanilla, great to see you like vB hehe.

You do know that you can set up a vB demo board.

Regards Jason 🙂

Fair enough, your opinion.

One thing I will say, the mods are a lot easier to install and some are better if not most. Usually, you just install a .xml product, and edit some template. Plus vBulletin is coded 100% XHTML. 🙂

Regards Jason 🙂

I think you should transfer to VB. Hopefully most if not all will transfer over to VB.

The PHPBB3 can be transfered in minutes to VB, passwords only need to be reset because PHPBB uses a salt hash for the passwords and it is a one way salt hash.

VB has my vote.

In regards to the looks, what makes you think they would use the default skin?

I totally agree with Yukonmaster. In my opinion, vBulletin is a lot better than phpBB3. And I should also think that there are many people who would back me up on that.

The only reason people prefer phpBB, is because it`s actually free. People don`t want spend money on forum software, for a forum that they may not use in a couple of months time. Don`t forget with phpBB, there are a lot of members, and only an handful of phpBB staff helping. Where as with vBulletin, you can post in the forums, and are guaranteed to get a reply, or you can submit a ticket and you will get a reply soon after.

Regards Jason 🙂

I don't know. Anyway, i would prefer it if we just stayed with phpBB3 otherwise I'd have to get used to navigating around vB. But anyway, its up to Fowler & Efc2007 what forum software they use.

Well vBulletin is very easy to navigate around.

Regards Jason 🙂
