In regards to the looks, what makes you think they would use the default skin?

I don't know. Anyway, i would prefer it if we just stayed with phpBB3 otherwise I'd have to get used to navigating around vB. But anyway, its up to Fowler & Efc2007 what forum software they use.

http://pc-core.net/forum

Try navigating around that, it is pretty straight forward.

I would go with IPB because it is a wonderful running system, although I still think phpBB3 is the best. 😀

I'm a huge fan of phpbb3, and for that reason i think you should stay. There are lots of features, add-ons, [MOD]s and more for phpbb3, which can really make your forum an interesting place to be.

I think a new theme is in order, there are alot more under the Styles forum on the official php board, that all all worth looking at. It wouldn't take too long to re-install the mods on a new theme,

Anyway, i vote stay with the current style ~smile~

In relation to the mods both of the mentioned software have nearly all the phpBB3 features (minus a few minor features which aren't needed) and offer much more features by default to save you adding mods.

There are alot of featues on the others that you can't get as a mod for phpBB3 which would help this forum massively especially on the admin/mod side like multi moderation so you lock and move a topic and add a preset reply in one click which would save alot of time on this forum as we do move and lock alot of topics.

By the looks of this poll it is very close...

Yes - VB 37% [ 3 ]
Yes - IPB 25% [ 2 ]
Yes - Other 0% [ 0 ]
Not sure 0% [ 0 ]
Not bothered 0% [ 0 ]
No - Stick with phpBB3 37% [ 3 ]

There are also a lot of mods for vBulletin, which are easier to install. Plus vBulletin mods, (some) use AJAX technology, which is wonderful.

But for this forum, I think your best sticking with phpBB3.

Regards Jason 🙂

It was between IBP and vBulletin for me but I want for vBulletin

The same goes for phpBB3 mods and IPB.

Very few PHPBB3 MODS use AJAX, IPB uses AJAX but VB has a much more solid infrastructure as far as coding is concerned. VB is much easier to navigate from a beginner user perspective which is why forums like webhostingtalk.com and forums.digitalpoint.com use vBulletin. There is also less of a learning curve for administrators and users when switching from PHPBB to vBulletin as vBulletin was built with the user in mind, rather than over complicating things like having two login names at registration.

Very few PHPBB3 MODS use AJAX,

True!

I just think that vB hacks/mods are a lot better, and a whole lot easier to install. Plus the support is great, and I know the phpBB support is great, but it`s free software, many people get it because it`s actually free, and there are only an handful of staff helping. In my opinion, vB is the best forum software out!

Regards Jason 🙂

May i ask why you're considering to upgrade?
To offer more to the members featurewise and it would to gain more control over all aspects of the forum as if you have tried the other software's you will notice that there is alot there that would help a forum like this and would make things better for the users. There is alot of additional acp features that phpBB can only dream about adding and phpBB release a major update once every blue moon which means all these useful features that the others have will either come not at all, or as a mod (most of the feature they have that i am most keen on aren't mods and probably will never be or will take ages to install) or they will come in the next major release in 5 years time...

From a moderation prospective it would benefit you... You would not have to type the same message over and over again and go through all the confirmation screens to move or lock a post. It will also save me and efc2007 constantly posting the messages "Your banner has been added" or whatever everytime we add one or the same with the signature ads, portal links and rejected reviews and so on. It can also add [Complete] to the start of the topic titles so it is easier for staff to know when something is completed which would be much easier all around.

I feel it will benefit the staff alot and the quite a few members feel that it would benefit the forum. Many people are worried about it being hard to navigate if we change... The same happened when we upgraded to phpBB3 from phpBB2. Some people moaned about that and how they didn't like it and stuff but now nobody really has any complaints about it. It is called change. When something you are used to changes you will always dislike it but once you get used to it and see what it has to offer you will like it more were as some people like to stay in a world where they know everything as that is where they feel comfortable but give it a few days to adjust and those people could adjust to whatever software.

Christian if you try a demo of both the boards you will see how much more the offer compared to phpBB3 as to me (no offence intended) you seem to be stuck in the phpBB3 world where you see it is the best... You think that as have you tried other software to the extent you have used phpBB3? I don't think so so that brings me to my point about change and the thought of change being uncomfortable towards change from something you know very well.

Another thing if you are reading this then you have just wasted 5 minutes of you life -lol-

EDIT: Just to add this is one of a few things we are thinking about... This is the only one which will really affect the users hence why we are asking your opinion. There is no gaurentee will will do anything and even if we do do something it might not be this. It depends on what you lot think on this and what we decide on the others then finally if we have enough money which is why we added the ads to the forum which will go some of the way to helping us.

I feel it will benefit the staff alot

Sounds nice to me!

After joining the Packages Staff, I noticed some major changes in the system from phpBB2 - such as the new Moderation Panel. I really feel that changing would not only be good for the staff, but it may also benifit the members. 😀

Try sending out a mass email to the users of the forum asking for their votes. That may help you get more votes to be able to make a better decision.

Noo!!! The phpBB is one of the best things about FP, don't change!

What do you like specifically about PHPBB?

I still think DSi should answer this too, although I thought I should put in my input. phpBB3 doesn't have as many features as vBulletin, although it has a much better feel to it's system. That is why I voted for IPB - it has a nice feel and it has more features. 😀

Why didn't you put it at the top (it took me a minute to read it ~smile~ )

I say keep phpBB3, but if you want to change go to vBulletin, but you realise it costs.
Of course it costs, however, the question remains, is it worth the cost.

Some features that would be implemented would be an arcade system, with over 1500 games which are scored and you can earn cash by playing and winning.

Lottery and bank system, so you can bank your points and make money with interest, and you can setup a lottery system so you can buy tickets and have the chance to win X amount of cash (fake) or even something like a free domain.

It is also safer, think of PHPBB's security like a wooden fence. vBulletins security is like a concrete wall with laser guns and rocket launchers on the top.

Security patches for vBulletin are issued within days and sometimes hours upon receiving the issue.

The possibilities are endless with vBulletin. With vBulletin, you don't have to update the styles when you install MODs, IPB you do for the most part. It is all done automagically.

I've said it once and I will say it again, vBulletin is the way to go.
